Need an expert opinion on buying a new motherboard/CPU..:)

Hey folks!

Im no pc boffin so I need any expert opinions from anyone interested in helping me out.

I have a vague idea of a price range, but thats something to worry about later. For now Im looking to buy anything within the range of a 3.00Ghz dual core CPU. But I have no idea where to start looking and which are good and which are rubbish. 2 attributes im looking for are :

(1)my sole purpose of buying this new pc will be to run 3D programs...3d studio max, Maya blender ect. The pc I have now takes ages to render a scene and im looking to up the tempo.
(2) I would preferably like to get a motherboard with an AGP instead of PCI express. this is because the graphics card I have now is an AGP card. Im not sure this would be possible becasue all new pc's mainly support PCI, but if possible please let me know

Thanks for your time, im so looking forward to getting my new rig ;)

I will prefer an intel system

thing is, I cannot afford a new graphics card if I go pcie. The one I have already set me back a hefty amount of money.

if its not possible then I guess I will have to Go pcie, not the end of the world.

Re: Need an expert opinion on buying a new motherboard/CPU..:)

Motherboards that support AGP rarely support DDR2 and don't support newer CPU's The bandwidth difference from x16 PCIe to x8 AGP will hold back the CPU.

Are you doing 3d rendering only or is gaming also a consideration?

then a m/b with onboard video until you have the money for card
if the agp you have is highend you will be able to recoup some money by selling it

where do you plan on buying from can you post a link to their site so we can check what is available

Re: Need an expert opinion on buying a new motherboard/CPU..:)

hi

gaming is not that important, the only game I play is GTR2 which uses little graphics but uses a lot of CPU.

I really have no clue of where to start looking /which sites. All this jargon makes me dizzy. so perhaps you could link me to a site to get me started?
