hello
i have never built a system before but the idea intrigues me. a friend let me know of a surplus of broken laptops i could obtain. i know i could shift through the pile and most likely put together a working laptop my question is is it possible to hook all the working pieces together and create a great system? for example hook the memory slots from 4 laptops together and get a upper memory limit of 8 gigs, have 2 internal hardrives etc basically could i put pieces of dead computers together and create a computing monster? |

Re: frankinstein theroy
It is possible to make a working laptop out of enough broken ones of the same model/Brand but You're not going to be able to add extra ram slots, hard drives or video cards to motherboards and laptops that do not have places to put them, you will find almost zero excess room inside a laptop. And they are not designed with expansion in mind, laptop design is about low weight, smaller the better, low power consumption to make for more time unplugged.

Re: frankinstein theroy
Compatibility is the issue, but you still can't add ram sockets or video card sockets to a motherboard that isn't designed to have them. But build a working computer out of a pile of parts happens a lot, just need the right pile.
