[SOLVED] New build, powers up but no video

So I just completed my first build. Here are the specs so you know exactly what I have to better help me. All help is greatly appreciated.

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU 500W ATX 12V 2.0 Power Supply
OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

I left out the other things because I havent even been able to get a video signal. I tried the brand new video card as well as a video card I pulled from my old computer that works fine, so I have ruled out the video card. Here is what happens.

Computer will turn on, rear case fan runs, CPU fan is hooked up but doesnt run. All lights are active, the DVD rom drive reads a disc if you put a new one in, reads for about 5 seconds and then the light goes out so that seems to be functioning just fine. But I get no video signal whatsoever, the monitor stays asleep. My monitor knows if there is no signal and will give me a message is the cord is unplugged, but doesnt give me that message when I have it plugged into the new build, the light that should be green stays orange on the monitor. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Re: New build, powers up but no video

Will do, but I will also answer these questions to see if anyone has any additional input, as I probably wont have time to bench test until the weekend.

1) Does the CPU fan spin at start-up ? No only the rear case fan does

2) are there any LED lights that are lit on the motherboard when the PSU is connected with the power active in the PSU ? yes the mobo has 5 or 6 red yellow and green lights lit

3) does the video card fan spin ? yes

4) when the power is active to the system on the bench does the monitor show a yellow or green stand-by light (next to the monitor power button) yellow

thanks doby, i never read about doing a bench test but will def do that when i have a few hours.

Re: New build, powers up but no video

Are you sure the 4 or 8 pin atx 12v power connector from the psu to the motherboard is plugged in?

Re: New build, powers up but no video

Glad you asked doby, there is a 4 pin (2x2) connector from the psu (labeled in the manual "+12 v connector 4 pin") that is unplugged but i can only find a 12v 2x4 slot open, this is not the 4 pin from the 20+4, that is intact and fully plugged in to the 24 pin connector.

HMMMMMMM, I can't do it now I have to get some sleep but I have to get your manual I suspect that board has a 8 pin aux 12V that needs to be plugged in, check your motherboard manual.

I am sure someone else will be along to hep

Re: New build, powers up but no video

It should work with just the 4 pin (P4 or ATX12v.), you need to look at the 2x4 socket by the cpu to see which half to put it in. There are square and rounded parts to the connector, should be able to tell that way. Probably the 4 pins to the right. You'll never get a display without power to the cpu.
