First time building
Well, this is my first time building a computer and I've picked out some parts. I wanted to know if all these are compatible with each other and if they'll work well together. Also, please let me know if I'm missing anything that's needed (like an extra fan or something).
Processor: http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=12200BD9410 Motherboard: http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=10530BD9212 Heat sink: http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=14650AC3426 Memory: http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=13220BD6202 Power Supply: http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=1037184382G Hard drive: http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=25350DR7429 Computer Case: http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=10370AC0534 CD/DVD Writer: http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=14040DR9951 Thanks in advance and please let me know if the price is worth it. It will cost me $1,454.58 (plus whatever tax directcanada adds) in total. Oh, and if anyone knows of a good step by step computer building guide, it'd be awesome if you could share. :) Thanks again. Re: First time building
The tax depends on where you are. If you're ordering out of province, you only pay GST, within and you pay both.
What video card are you getting/have? Power supply depends largely on that, however, Antec has lost it when they changed the supplier of it's internals, and quality has gone downhill.

Re: First time building
Oh, I forgot to add the video card. I thought I had included it but guess not. I was looking at GTX 260 or the 285... but that doesn't fit my budget now (1500-1600$). I need to make adjustments, you guys have solutions where I can go cheaper?
Thanks for the replies. |

Re: First time building
I'd have to agree with all of the above, you won't power a GTX28x very well on an EA650. TX750 will do fine, but won't run a GTX295, not that you're thinking of one of those puppies eh. Dream n'drool material, that.
linderman has it right, I wouldn't consider an i7 system for 6 months to a year or so. Wait for them to get the bugs out, and for other chipsets as well. There was talk of a dual core and a P55 chipset (Ibex Peak), but I haven't heard anything in that vein since October.

Re: First time building
Thanks for your help guys. I actually wasn't planning on buying it right away. I was just looking for what I wanted and when I have the money to buy it, I'd buy it right away. So thanks for all the help! Hopefully I can build this baby soon. =D
