Upgrade Help
Hi guys, I'm currently upgrading a friends PC, now there are a few new components I'm gonna need, looks like the RAM has shorted out as there are scorch marks on it and the mobo. Plus the processor has bent pins, not sure how though.
It's a bit of an old machine, but I (they) wanna keep the CD/DVD drive, floppy drive and HD. So out with: Motherboard RAM Processor Keeping: DVD Drive Floppy Drive (Not necessary) Hard Drive However, I've got 2GB of DDR2 RAM, so that's sorted already, but I'm gonna need a new mobo and processor, and here's "the thing" drives don't have SATA connections, but the old pin style. So I'm gonna need a mobo that incorporates that, or I'll need some adaptors.. The processor I'm going to use is: Intel Celeron 336 Socket 775 2.80GHz 533FSB 256KB L2 Cache OEM Processor So, can you find me a motherboard that will incorporate the above processor and has IDE ports? Or will I need an adaptor for each drive? If so, I'll need at least 2 adaptors.. Thanks. Last edited by Jammel; 02-03-2009 at 02:32 AM. |

Re: Upgrade Help
Unless it's the exact same motherboard, a repair install is required. This removes the drivers for the old motherboard and hardware and then you need to install the new, starting with the motherboard's chipset drivers, lan, and all windows updates must be redone.
