Confused Replaced mboard but SATA boot-up problem

Hi,

I have just replaced my failing Gigabyte motherboard with a new gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H board. Everything else is the same, I am using the same processor (Pentium D), SATA hard drive, RAM and Power supply etc.

Operating system is XP with service Pack 2. Ram is 1 Gig.

Problem is that when I turn it on I hear 7 separate clicks, one every second, from the CD ROM drives and only after that has happened will the system come to life and start booting from the SATA hard drive.

I've tried altering the BIOS settings. For example the first boot device is the hard drive, and the second and third are disabled. I've also read the manual and I don't have RAID enabled (as i only have one hard drive).

Does anyone know why the system always tries the CD ROM drives first. How can I stop this annoying delay.

Re: Replaced mboard but SATA boot-up problem

when changing motherboards you have to perform a win xp repair install to "clean out and remove the old motherboard chipset drives" as well as execute a new hardware set-up / inventory .................... you wont lose any data and it wont mess with your programs

you will need upon re-boot to add all system drivers in this order

A) motherboard chipset drivers (its usually a .inf program)

B) lan drivers

C) sound drivers

D) windows updates and install service pack two again (or just go to sp-3)

E) install video card drivers LAST

Re: Replaced mboard but SATA boot-up problem

Thanks for the advice. Apart from the delay at boot-up evrything else seems OK. Do you think doing what you say will fix that?

I appreciate you taking time out to advise me, I just don't want to go through the above if it won't solve the problem of delaying my boot-up during the first 15 seconds.
Thanks again
