Computer Building - Suitable Setup?

Hey all,

Well I've finally decided I'm going to build my own computer. I've got all the bits in my online basket and I'm just about to click the "Order" button...but I've got a few questions first.

Questions:
- Are the bits I've chosen compatible?
- Will this be a suitable PC for video editing, 3d animation etc?
- Are there any other things I need such as thermal paste, screws etc or will all this be included with the parts?
- Will be my setup be able to run Vista, After Effects, Photoshop etc with ease?

Below is the complete system I'm thinking of getting.

Case: http://www.xcase.co.uk/p/298092/elit...no-psu---.html

Motherboard: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Gigab...7-SATA-300-ATX

Graphics Card: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/256MB...I-HDMI-HDCP-LP

RAM: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/4GB-(...d-CAS-5-5-5-18

CPU: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Intel...che-85x-Retail

DVDRW: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Samsu...RetailplusNero

HDD: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1TB-S...ache-85-ms-NCQ

PSU: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/550w-...anty-see-specs

FireWire Card: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Dynam...hipset-400Mbps

Cheers,

Andrew.

Re: Computer Building - Suitable Setup?

Okay, I've had a look ast the above links and adjusted my basket accordingly. Below are my new setup changes.

PSU: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/750W-...ool-80plus-Eff
Case: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/151368
Graphics Card: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/512MB...ores-2-x-DVI-I
HDD: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1TB-S...ache-85-ms-NCQ
DVDRW: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Samsu...RetailplusNero
FireWire Card: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Dynam...hipset-400Mbps
CPU: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Intel...e-Ratio-Retail
Graphics Card: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148800

Total: £620.54

This is obviously a much better computer for my money...even though it is slightly over what I was hoping to spend lol. However, the 12 USB ports is an excellent addition and means I don't have to bother about running out now! :D

Any further suggestions? :) Do I need any other fans or anything at all?

EDIT: I've just had a look at the graphics card and it doesn't have a VGA port...and my TV doesn't have DVI . What graphics cards can I get which support BOTH VGA and DVI?

EDIT 2: I've looked at some other graphics cards....and was wondering, is this one suitable? http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=959002

Re: Computer Building - Suitable Setup?

Okay, was being a bit thick earlier lol. I've figured out I can use the original graphics card you mentioned and just get an adapter to convert from my VGA to DVI connection :).

So...final questions are, do I need anything else like fans, cables etc?

Re: Computer Building - Suitable Setup?

Excellent, thanks very much for your very helpful advice through all of this linderman :). I've added a 120mm fan to my basket so I would have thought this was enough (there is another 120mm fan attached to the pc case itself). It's not a problem if I notice the temperature being high and need to go out and grab another one though since I go to University pretty close to a computer shop :).

Thanks again!

Andrew.
