yet another will it work? thread
i am in the process of building a new computer, i already have an 8800gt and the hard drives and cd drives but the rest i am planning on buying hopefully for under $400. the computer is mostly for gaming but it doesn't need to be a hardcore awesome rig, just something to play games at a decent frame rate with medium graphics.
here's what i have so far: first choice motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131340 second choice motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157139 cpu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103272 RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231144 power supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703005 case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129042 i have built a few computers before (one of which failed terribly) but i have never over clocked, i was hoping to get a set up which would allow me to do that in the future, at least for the cpu and ram. i would appreciate any input on which motherboard to pick and the build in general thanks. edit: i should add that i am buying a few fans to fill up the empty slots in the case and i am thinking about getting an after market cpu cooler so that i can OC. Re: yet another will it work? thread
AMD units do not overclock nearly as well as Intel cpu's.
With AMD the memory controller is on the cpu and 1066 ram is only supported by AM2+ cpu's(Phenoms) so you need DDR2 800.> http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?mo...49&l3=758&l4=0 Either board is decent I would go with the Asus if it's available |

Re: yet another will it work? thread
That is a AM2+ x2 so should allow 1 stick per channel of 1066 ram.
Tiger is ok they also have brick and mortar stores in FLA and Canada and some others. On the Intel AMD thing I hear that a lot but remember it's only the cpu cost that is more a E7300 is about $120 FYI |

Re: yet another will it work? thread
i appreciate the help. like i said, my budget is 400 and im at about 390 without shipping so i think ill just stick with amd. maybe i can upgrade my mobo and cpu sometime in the future.
oh and one last question. will a socket am2 fan and heatsink work with an am2+ cpu? Last edited by BadCommando; 12-30-2008 at 11:33 AM. |

Re: yet another will it work? thread
the reviews on that one said that it did come with a stock heatsink/fan so i may stick with that for now and buy something better when i decide to oc it.

Re: yet another will it work? thread
Only concern I have is the cpu is relatively new and requires the 804 bios which is also new, a fresh board will have the latest bios a board that has been on the shelf for a couple of months may not, most of the time a AMD chip will boot and allow the bios update but this one being new I swear to it.
