Avoiding ESD
This is the last post i will do about static.
Ok in my house the only room without carpets is the Kitchen, is it ok to build a computer in a kitchen. Secondly my case have a 500w power supply build it (with a red slider with the markings 230 & 115, what is it, and a black on,off switch) should i keep the power cord in the power supply and plug it in, if so do i keep the black & wall soket on or off.

Re: Avoiding ESD
The red switch is the voltage setting if your in North America it gets set to 115 in the UK 230 if neither post back where and I'll find out before you plug it in. If you do it on the Kitchen table connect the clip to the metal of the power supply plug it in and leave the switch off if the outlet has a wall switch all the better leave it off also set it up out side the case and get it to post follow the procedures here> How to Bench Test Your System

Re: Avoiding ESD
Heck I built every single system I've ever built on a desk in a room with very plush carpeting and never had a static problem. An anti static bracelet is good investment, but you don't even need that. Just remember to ground yourself by touching the exposed metal of your case before touching any sensitive parts (i.e. CPU and RAM).
While static can be a problem it's not the end of the world scenario it's played up to be. |

Re: Avoiding ESD
Yes it is just connect the strap to the metal case of the power supply your removing the static from you through the strap, for that matter if you had a metal pipe that you knew was grounded like a sink spigot that would work also.
