Building in Progress, $700 Budget

Hello, a friend told me about this site and I was interested in building a new computer for myself. If you guys could help me out in good parts to get and not push the budget it would really help. Here are my preferences.

1. Budget: $600-700

2. Brands: Not too picky with brands

3. Multitasking: Moderate to high multitasking

4. Gaming: Some gaming, CoD4 and L4D perhaps

5. Calculations: Nope

6. Overclocking: Probably not

7. Storage: 250-500gb will do

8. Legacy Support: No

9. Operating System: Windows XP

10. Case: Love the Apevia brand cases

11. Accessories: No, ill get those on my own

12. Recycled Components: Nope

13. Monitor: If it doesnt push the budget then a smaller widescreen will do, 19"? If it pushes the budget, then I will buy on my own later

14. Stores: Newegg please

15. Location: US

Thanks!

Re: Building in Progress, $700 Budget

I see you listed some gaming so what will the primary use be?

Have a look over these I may want to tweak some things depending on the primary use.
Swap the case out for one of your choice and this includes a monitor.

Re: Building in Progress, $700 Budget

Sorry about the late reply, mainly it will be used just for everyday use but I still want it to be nice enough of a computer to run games on high settings.

Re: Building in Progress, $700 Budget

The E8400 drops in price as it's been out longer, look at the price of the top Core2Duo, the E8600, and that's pretty much where the E8400 was 6 months or so ago.

270US bucks http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...5054&Tpk=E8600

Which is why the E8400 or E8500 are a much better "bang for the buck" cpu.

Re: Building in Progress, $700 Budget

you could have a look at building an AMD machine, ah i said it! here come the flamers :O... anyway Athlon64's seem to have more power for cost at the lower end of the budgets but if your willing to go the extra 100 dollars then intel has far better cpu's at the higher end of the budgets, so in summary you would have more cash to wave at the graphics card(IMO more important for gaming) if you go with something like an Athlon64 x2 6000+ 3.1GHZ CPU
