[SOLVED] MN3N-HT Build

I just built a computer with the ASUS MN3N-HT mother board AMD Phenom X4 9950 processor and Corsair PC8500 1066mhz DDR2. For the power supply I have chosen the Corsair 1000w SLI ready I plan to place two NVIDIA 260 cards once things are running. I placed of the components including a Seagate hard drive and sony DVD drives. I have read the manual and connected all of the power supplies and connection iaw the instructions. I have not yet installed the video cards and the mother board is supposed to have onboard graphics capablities. As soon as I tunr the power on the computer starts to check the HD then the Disk Drives, once that is complete the computer shuts down. If I try to turn it on again the computer shuts down immediately. Any suggestion of what to try next?

Re: MN3N-HT Build

You do have the CPU heat sink and Fan connected, and the fan is spinning correct?

Re: MN3N-HT Build

CPU fan is connected and is spinning tried one stick of memory, still no success. I am wonderning if its a incompatibilaty problem with the memory, but not really sure. I tested the PSU and it's working correctly. Unplugged the CPU power the hdd and dvd drives run fine. Removed the hdd and dvd drives from the system with the CPU connected, no success. I will remove the mobo from the case and try again. The case didn't come with system speakers, so I have to wait on one to come in. My location doesn't help either because I can just go and test or trade components.

Re: MN3N-HT Build

Are you using all 8 pins in the cpu power connector?
What PSU do you have?

There are 2 different 9950 Phenoms
Phenom X4 9950 (HD995ZFAJ4BGH),2.6GHz,140W,rev.B3,SocketAM2+,Quad-Core ALL
0702

Phenom X4 9950 (HD995ZXAJ4BGH),2.6GHz,125W,rev.B3,SocketAM2+,Quad-Core ALL
1301

The second needs the 1301 Bios while the first needs 0701, The 1301 is dated Sept/08 so the board may not have it if you have the part number HD995ZXAJ4BGH CPU.

Re: MN3N-HT Build

I have the 125w CPU. Something tells me that I am going to have to down grade my CPU until I can get the correct version of the BIOS. First thing I guess I need to do is find out what BIOS I do have. No problem, will try that and see what happens. The memory is listed on the compatibility chart.

Re: MN3N-HT Build

Linderman has a point with 1066 you can only run 1 stick per channel due to the limitation in the AMD CPU's memory controller.

Re: MN3N-HT Build

If you mean for the for the Bios it could have any, as the MB revision and the Bios version do not always change together.
Some Asus boards have a sticker near the power socket the end of the number on the sticker will be the bios version

Re: MN3N-HT Build

Seems like Asus has a lot of BIOS problems, should have done more research into this in the first place. Thanks for the help.

It's not really all Asus it has a lot to do with all the changes AMD has made to the cpu's.

It seems you have a lower bios the x2's used to boot to allow a update but I've been hearing the Phenoms won't. The ideal solution would be to try it with a lessor cpu to make sure it will boot then flash it up the the latest.

I think WRENCH has this one nailed ........ sometimes if you can find the right computer shop they will grab a used cpu and flash your bios reasonably ........I generally charge $20.00 at my shop to do something this easy............ maybe you can find similar ............?

Re: MN3N-HT Build

See if you can find someone will to lend you one of the lessor cpu's on this list to allow you to boot and flash the bios you will need to redo the thermal paste each time you remove the heat sink so if you can do it make sure you have enough paste

Re: MN3N-HT Build

bought and older AMD Athlon CPU and cheap memory for $80. The computer posted and I was able to flash the latest BIOS using the ASUS BIOS flash utility in the BIOS menu. Later I installed the the quad core and memory that I had originally bought. The computer works great! I have no problems as of yet.

Thanks for the help.
