Upgrade Advice
Hi,
Basically i partly helped a friend build my current pc as my knowledge on hardware isnt top notch. My computer is starting to find it a bit difficult running games like World of warcraft where it will lag quite badly when there is alot going on. Im fairly sure its to do with the graphics card being a bit old so im looking for some advice on what graphics card to buy. There are so many choice out there i dont really know which one would best suite my needs. heres some of my computer specs at the moment: MOTHERBOARD http://www.gigabyte.co.nz/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=1916 RAM: 4GB PROCESSOR: Intel pent 4 3.00ghz PSU: 650watt OS: Vista32 Now ive heard about how the SLI technology is quite good so im considering looking into doing that aswell. My budget is around up to £60 for each graphics card, but if it will make a big difference it can be stretched a bit further. Also i highly doubt for that price, but i have recently got a 37"HDTV and was wondering if any suggested graphics cards would be able to display on the TV if connected, not for gaming just for watching shows etc. Just ask if you need me to supply more info, i kno its a bit vague at the moment but dont really kno what else is needed to be said Thanks for any help, Keeba |

Re: Upgrade Advice
SLI ing 2 lower cards is never as good as a single larger card in other words 2 9500GT's do not perform as well as a single 9600GT. SLI only has some advantages when done with the largest cards.
What power supply do you currently have as this will most likely be the limiting factor? Do you have a favorite online store? |

Re: Upgrade Advice
I'm not good with UK stores so I have a few links but you get the Idea of what to look for
The wattage rating on your supply is in the right range but I doubt the quality is there. If your set up is running ok you could keep it but I would want to change it out sooner or later. With a P4 I don't see much sense in going above a 9800Gt as even that will be held back somewhat by the CPU. Something like this but I think it's going to push your PSU pretty hard> http://www.ebuyer.com/product/152546 Something like this might fit the PSU and the CPU a little better> http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...)%20-%20Retail If you want to go with the 9800GT I would upgrade the PSU to something like this> http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=CA-008-CS http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...Power%20Supply |
