Help with my first build

This is my first time ever building a PC and I just want to make sure every thing goes smoothly. I plan on building a gaming PC within the $600-700 range (but closer to $600 the better, also including shipping as well as monitor). I'm not reusing any parts (except for the mouse), so I had to buy everything. Anyway, these are parts I have currently chosen:

Hard Drive (I went retail because it included the cables, but it seems like I can find much better OEM HD's for less of a price, what do you think?):
Western Digital 320gb 16mb cache hard drive

RAM:
Crucial 2gb (2 x 1gb) RAM

Processor:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ 2.6GHz AM2 65W Dual-Core Processor

Monitor:
Hanns·G Hi-221DPB Black 22" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor

Motherboard:
GIGABYTE GA-M61PME-S2 AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 / nForce 430 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

DVD Drive:
ASUS Black 18X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM SATA DVD-ROM Drive Model DVD-E818A3T

PSU:
Broadway Com Corp P4-OKIA600-BLACK 600W ATX Power Supply

Graphics Card:
GIGABYTE GeForce 9600 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Video Card

Case:
XION Solaris XON-403 Black with Green LED Light Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

I think a lot of people prefer Intel over AMD, but it's hard to find Intel CPU's that match AMD's in price. I'm not really sure what to do here.

I'm also not too sure on the graphics card.

So, I was just seeing what people recommend. Is there anything I should change? Know of any places I can find these parts cheaper?

Since I'm a newbie, is this all compatible? Is there anything else I might need to buy? I have no idea if there are extra cords or something I need to buy.

I'm not going to be doing extreme gaming (like Crysis on high settings). I'll most likely be playing somewhat older games and just a few newer ones.

I realize that you all probably get questions like this every day, but I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can give me advice.

Thanks a lot!

Re: Help with my first build

The power supply you have selected is a piece of junk. The type of video card you have selected (pci-e) requires a minimum of 26 amps on the +12 rail. The one you have selected only has 24 amps, plus it is such a weak supply that I seriously doubt it can even put out 20 amps on a good day. You need to be looking with this video card as a 600 to 650 watt supply from one of the following brands:

Seasonic – Any Model
Corsair – Any Model
PC Power & Cooling – Any Model
Thermaltake – “Toughpower” Series Only
Coolermaster – “Real Power Pro” Series Only

You do get more power for the buck with the AMD solution

I'm also not too sure on the graphics card.
