computer recieves no power
ok, so im in the process of building a computer for my cousin and ive hit a road bump. first i'll list all of the hardware
thermaltake 430w psu (case and psu separate) thermaltake case nvidia 8800gt 340~mb (requires 400w minimum) intel dual core 2.6ghz nvidia nforce 610i motherboard 2gb (2 1gb stick) corsair ram now the problem is that after everything has been plugged in when i power on the computer nothing happens. theres no indicator no beeps no nothing. and i know that i set the motherboard jumpers in the correct positions, just the power sw is all that id need but i did use the reset sw and the case led sw. ive tried swapping out power supplies and still nothing. im thinking that he either has a dead mobo or the case is broken. ive ruled out its not the cpu, ram, or video card. since with everything unplugged except the mobo and cpu and ram in slots still nothing. theres just no power flowing to the motherboard. now i dont know if it could be the jumper not set correctly therefore the power button on the case not functioning, or if the motherboard is just dead. but it has to be either one of those. any help would be extremely appreciated. thanks in advacne |

Re: computer recieves no power
A 430w isn't going to power a 8800Gt for very long if at all have a read through our power supply sticky in my signature, the lowest I would use is in the 610-650w range.

Re: computer recieves no power
well, if it were the video card then i would have gotten no power only when it was plugged in but it would have powered on without the card in the case. and that its my next step building outside the case. ill do that in a few minutes and post on how it goes. and on newegg it said that the card could be powered by a 400w ill check again though.

Re: computer recieves no power
ah ok i got an idea that could maybe freshen things up a bit
heres a diagram of what the front panel connection looks like o o o o o o o o o ^^power sw goes there but theres only 1 pin to fit it. the manual says this is right but it seems wrong to me. the next 3 pins are for the power led. diagram came out backwards, theres no pin on the bottom left not bottom right |

Re: computer recieves no power
Here's an image of how they should be the blue goes to the power switch, the red to the power led + at the top - second one down, reset switch is green, hard drive led is yellow again + at the top and - second one down the polarity on the switches won't matter.
You should be able to start it by momentary shorting the 2 power switch pins with the front panel connector disconnected. Does the motherboard have a speaker? It's not much of a motherboard manual at 11 pages but here is the one I found> http://www.evga.com/support/manuals/112-CK-NF70.pdf Last edited by wrench97; 12-25-2008 at 05:17 PM. |
