Building in Process
Hello all!
Feel helpless as I am right now, I have resorted to asking others for assitance... i'll make this as brief as possible :) I have recently purchased computer parts from neweggs, with the intentions of building a new computer. I have built one four years prior, so i figured why not give it a shot again this time with more up to date parts... After completing the task of setting the parts in, I believed everything was good to go, so I plugged all the power supply cords in and everything looked good. I plugged my power and was hoping for at least a sign of life, to my awe it was bitter sweet... the light on the mother board was shining bright green, good... the GFX card's light was green, good... but the fans weren't on! the monitor was blank... and the computer made no noises to confirm it was having problems After trying to fix this problem myself, I found mysef failing. I suspect the power supply could possibly be bad but maybe I am just not doing this right, and possibly I could get some advice :) I am new to using SATA HDD & CdRom as well so maybe that might be a factor, since i'm not to sure what cords they require anyways, here are the parts I am using and their respective link to the item on newegg CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 Wolfdale 3.33GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Mother Board: ASUS P5E Deluxe ATX (Intel) Power Supply: APEVIA ATX-LCD750W 750W ATX12V / EPS12V RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) HDD: Western Digital Raptor WD740ADFD 74GB 10000 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 1.5Gb GFX Card: EVGA GeForce 9800 GT 512-P3-N971-TR CD Rom: ASUS 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black SATA Model DRW-2014S1T Case: Antec 900 Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to help me solve this :) Last edited by nexos; 12-25-2008 at 12:58 AM. |

Re: Building in Process
Set up outside of the case with minimal components with linderman's bench.
How to Bench Test Your System Though just for interests sake, first try clearing your cmos.

Re: Building in Process
Before I went through the whole benching process(thanks for the link!)
I wanted to see if my power supply itself was working, so I unscrewed one of the cages on my Antec 900 that contained a case fan I connected the case fan to the correct cord on the power supply, the power supply made a screech noise and the fan remained dead... What are your thoughts on that? EDIT: I plugged the same case fan to my friend's power supply(that he currently uses in his working computer) and the fan ran great with lights on... unless theres something hidden, I believe my power supply is faulty :/ although any profressional opinions as to why else this maybe happening would be appreciated Last edited by nexos; 12-25-2008 at 10:03 AM. |

Re: Building in Process
DOA Apevia does not surprise me but first follow the instructions here> Test your power supply with a multi meter
If it is dead see if yiou can return it and get at least a 650w of one of these quality brands and models> Seasonic - any model Corsair - any model Thermaltake - "Toughpower" series only Coolermaster - "Real Power Pro" series only PC Power & Cooling - any model Silverstone - any model |

Re: Building in Process
Thanks for the suggested brands wrench :) When stores open tomorrow, i'll be sure to check out fry's for a new PSU, i'll let you guys know if the new PSU solved the problem, hopefully it should...
one more question, the previous computer I built used a different hook-up for the HDD & CD-ROM Driver I was wondering where I hook up the SATA connectors for both HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827135168 CD-ROM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136033 to this mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131317 (you can see the picture of the board in the link) What I did before was put the connector into one of the 6 SATA Slots on the Mobo, I wasn't sure if it mattered which one I put them in since there are 6 and the mobo said it is for "raid" purposes(all which I am new to) hopefully you guys could decipher my total lack of computer knowledge :/ &Thanks a ton for replying back on Christmas! I appreciate the help a lot |

Re: Building in Process
You should use Sata 1 port for the HD and 2 for the CD/DVD drive which are closest to the power plug not a big deal just makes it easier to find later in the bios.
Don't worry about Raid configurations just set up the HD as a single Sata drive. |

and nothing happened, the case fan didn't go off and neither did the PSU fan... suggestions? :( |

Re: Building in Process
I did the bench test, my rig did the same thing... the Motherboard LED was bright green, my sound card's LED was blue... CPU Fan did not start, and the LED on my CD-ROM wasn't on either...

Re: Building in Process
Okay... after working and doing some more twinking around I got everything to work, all fans are on, cd-rom is opening and closing as it should...
BUT, my video card(although the fan is on) is giving no signal.. arg, my friend believes it is faulty http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130397 The card has 2 White Slots and a Video Out They supply two converts, blue-to-white, i've tried two monitors and a tv neither recieved signal Anything I could do to test to see if it's faulty? or is that enough proof ((NOTE: Sorry for not knowing the color names :/ all I know is a monitor has a blue cable)) |

Re: Building in Process
Test the card in a different pc or a different card in this motherboard.
Double check the 6 pin power to the card is fully seated White = DVI, Blue = VGA, the tv out is Svideo. |
