New Computer Build Revisited. Several Questions
Kudos to Linderman and the rest of the Forum staff and viewers, I have completed the following:
Case: Antec 1200 MD: Gigabyte GA-EP45-DQ6 CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 Cooler: TRUE (Lapped) Arctic Silver 5. Scythe S Flex 120mm Fan SFF21F Memory: Corsair Dominator 4GB (2X2048) DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) 5-5-5-15 2T 2.1v Video: ASUS EAH 4870 DK 1 GB PSU: Corsair HX-1000W HD: 2X Seagate 7200.11 1TB DVD Burner: Samsung 22X SH-S223F) Blu-Ray Reader: Pioneer BDC-2202B OS: MS VISTA Ultimate 64 Bit The questions are 1. When I run CPUID, the core speed flucuates between 1999.9 X 6 at idle and 3333 X 10 on a load. Is normal for this system? 2. The temps on Core #0 is 39 deg. and Core #1 is 35 deg. on HW Monitor. Should there be this discrepancy? Could this mean that the contacts between the cooler and the processor are not adequate? Hopefully, I can now try a moderate OC. Thanks for everyone for their help in this build.

Re: New Computer Build Revisited. Several Questions
The Fluctuation is due to Intel Speed step or EIST (Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology)
You can disable it in the Bios, It is a power saving feature important on laptops not as much on desktops. The temps look pretty normal to me the Arctic Silver does have a break in period, what is the overall temp. |

Re: New Computer Build Revisited. Several Questions
awesome build >>>>>>>>>>>>.
yoour motherboard has cpu power management features (google for intel speed stepping) which saves power by lowering the multiplier when not under much load thus lowering power consumption and lowering heat too you can disable that feautre if desired and yes its normal for one core of your cpu to get hotter than the other ......... core 0 will alwasy get slightly more work assingned to it than core 1 you are ready for some overclocking for sure ............... you could start off by reading Grassi's thread in overclocking to get you warmed up ........... its long and not meant to be digested in one sitting ............. but alot of your adventure will mirror his ............. once you have all the tools linked in there ............. and you have poked around in the bios at all the settings you will see I posted in the ocing templates ........... you too will be ready ! I think you could expect to see 4.2 ghz and still leave yourself a tad of headroom ....... the diff in performance from 4.2 to 4.5ghz is almost nothing !!!!!!!!!!! so why take the risk the benefits to the overclock will have been harvested at 4.2 ghz ..................... you could send me a PM when you have a post up at the overclockign section ........ you can save yourself alot of aggravation and feeling uncertain by digesting Grassi's thread ........ enjoy ! joe
