My System

Another noobie build (help pls)

G'day folks from down under.

First of all would like to say that after attempting to install a cd burner in this old system a couple of years ago I am a little nervous of attempting a build of a new system. Why u may ask? After booting this old system, smoke bellowed out of the rear of the case followed by flames. Didn't think the cd burner would litterally cook everything. Just lucky to have our energy suppliers replace the system for us due to a surge in the supply at the time.

Moving on.
My budget comes in at au$2000 max to build mainly a video\media system although some gaming in the future is a possibility if i can drag meself away from the xbox360.
Components will be purchased seperately when money is available and mostly online through Umart (www.umart.com.au).
I have already a P5Q Pro MB and an E8400 core 2 duo processor (from umart, here in ozland).
After much consideration and investigation online this is what i have come up with...Not into overclocking at this stage.

Microsoft Windows XP PRO (OEM)- $225.00
Antec ATX TruePower 650W TRio - $137.00
2x Samsung 500G 7200RPM SATAII - $166.00
Internal Card Reader with Slim Floppy Drive Black- $39.00
Geil DDR2 2048MB PC2-8500 1066Mhz (2x1024MB)- $76.00
Antec Three Hundred Tower Gaming Case- Black NO PSU -$95.00
Corsair DOMINATOR AIRFLOW Fan -$41.00
Sapphire HD2400PRO 512MB 64-BIT DDR2- $45.00
Pioneer DVR-216BK 20x Dual Black OEM with software - SATA -$31.00 Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 4000 Vista/ XP USB Retail -$66.00
Asus VW224U 22 inch Wide 2ms Tilt Speaker DVI VGA -$269.00
Total $1190.00
(online Prices correct as at 19 Dec 2008)

I'm not sure about the video card and may need direction here however, it is not a requirement at this stage to get a high end card or wateva for gaming. The OS i'm considering XP Pro 64bit version against the 32bit at this stage as the 64 bit version is around the same price as the 32bit. With considering the 64bit OS xp pro, it would allow me to install more memory (as the 32bit version i understand that 3GB is the limit), for use with video & music editing\encoding. I have read online that the 64bit version doesn't have many drivers available for it or for the programs that run with it. I have searched a week now for an updated or current webpage with info regarding drivers for the 64bit version of xp pro and all i get is vista this and vista that . I don't want vista yet lol.

I've heard along the grapevine from different sources that building a computer yaself is easier these days than it was previously in years gone by. But after studying the P5Q Pro manual extensively perhaps i should find an "expert" so to speak to put it together for me.
Hoping someone can pls comment on wat i have here and possibly help me in the right direction
Thanks from Australia,
Ozziebloke.

First of all the 2400 is total tat. The 4600 or 3600 (or higher) are the way to go. Get vista as everything will soon just run on vista, but besides from that I like it!
