Re: New Build gonna buy a soon as you give ok please help asap.

this looks like a nice system. you will have a lot of fun with it

i might change the cooler to a
Sunbeam CR-CCTF 120mm "Core Contact Freezer"
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835207004

and get one of these PSU's
PC Power & Cooling S61EPS 610W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703005
this should be plenty of power and with MIR is only $69.99 + free Shipping
but the PSU you have right now should carry you over for now

will you be using the same HDD? IDE/SATA?

Re: New Build gonna buy a soon as you give ok please help asap.

If your stock cooler is not on securely, you will overheat your cpu to the point of shutdown. It is not a "maybe" thing, it will happen quickly, as you have apparantly found out. All 4 legs must be locked into position. There should be a click on each one, and yes, they can be a real pain to secure, but it must be done. If you bought the Antec 900 and the Sunbeam linked to by BoT it will absolutely fit. No question. It sounds as if you are not installing it fully, same as with the stock heatsink. And I really hope you are using thermal paste.

Never plug in a device when the power is on. Anytime you work inside the case, the operating system should be shut down properly, if possible, and then the power supply needs to be unplugged from the wall.
Never means never, you shouldn't be opening your case when powered on, there are very few things that you can do in there when it's on.

Get your cpu cooler installed properly with a thermal solution ie: paste such as Arctic Silver, and try it again. Install the cpu and heatsink outside of the case on the motherboard box, it is much easier that way. When it is on securely, pick up the board carefully by the edges and look at the bottom to mounting holes are, you should be able to see the center spindle of each leg locked into place. It will mostly look like white plastic with a black dot in the center.

Follow linderman's bench test. Exactly. Don't just do some of it, do all of it, do not skip anything. And better keep your fingers crossed that you didn't fry anything.

edit for links:

good luck

Re: New Build gonna buy a soon as you give ok please help asap.

Yes i am using thermal paste i think i have stock cooler on right this time because it was not shutting off i think i lucked out by not frying anything. but as far as the sunbeam cooler i can clip 1 side but the other side will not the module that says ultra durable displayed blocks the opposite side from clipping should i bend the clips on 1 side so it will clamp on. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128358 look at pics and where it says ultra durable is whats blocking the sunbeam.

Re: New Build gonna buy a soon as you give ok please help asap.

your link doesnt work ................. but i think I known what your up against ........ I had that same problem with some Giga P35 chipset motherboards

I used a four inch grinder or falt file to remove some of the length of the clips extending leg

you dont have to remove very much metal and it then works ...............

Re: New Build gonna buy a soon as you give ok please help asap.

you should install it so the fan on the cooler blows towards your exhaust fan and not towards your psu. the way you described it, it sounds like you installing it to blow upward in the case. the ultra durable pwn heatsink is sitting on the i/o panel side.

i also believe that the "gigabyte" and the "ultra dusrable" are just clip on covers for the heatsinks. taking them off should free up a little space and increase airflow for the heatsinks.
