New Custom Built Computer Advise???

Hey Guys,

How's everyone doing? Hope you all are enjoying your holidays? I haven't been on this site for ages... Been busy with school and had a busy/tough semester of classes and finally am relieved after my exams are over.

I am in the market for a new custom built desktop and I am confused at the moment for which parts to get, from brand to overall hardware specs. I am not looking for a high end gaming pc, just a pc for regular use, light - mild gaming without any difficulties and also something to play 720P and 1080P movies with ease.
The budget I am looking at is anywhere hopefully between $600 to $850, if not $950 at the most after taxes...

Like I mentioned above, I don't know which CPU to get, be it Core 2, Core 2 Quad or Phenom, what brand of motherboards (Asus, XFX, Intel, Gigabyte, MSI, etc).
Which video card to get, wattage of PSU, RAM will be 2GB to 3GB DDR2, Hard drive will be b/w 500GB to 750GB. Only one required for that. For a case, I am thinking of Full tower, if not a reasonably Mid Sized. Also a case that is not a dust machine. Currently one of my pcs has the Antec 900 case and its a dust machine... lol

Anywho, just thought I'd post this thread to see what feedback/inputs I can get along with the best advice before I go out and get the stuff and built it before the holidays are over.

Just as an idea, here are my current custom built RIGS:

(1) AMD Athlon X64 3800+ 2.0GHz oced to 2.4GHz
ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe Mobo
2GB DDR PC 3200
Enermax 535W PSU
XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB
Seagate 500GB SATA II HD
NEC DVD Burner

Also everything is stock cooling for the cpu/gpu and there is only 1x120mm fan at the back

(2) Intel Core 2 Quad Q600 2.4Ghz
Asus P5Q Deluxe Mobo
4GB DDR 2 PC 6400
1 x 250GB SATA II HD (WD)
1 x 500GB SATA II HD (Seagate)
3 x 1TB SATA II HD (Seagates)
XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB
Antec 900 Case with all the fans being used in the case
Corsair 650W PSU
1 Samsung DVD Burner

Also everything is stock cooling for both cpu/gpu

So ya there ya go. Would appreciate the help again

Thanks,
Zirian

Re: New Custom Built Computer Advise???

Are you looking for HDMI vidoe and audio pass through or RGB outputs?
The E8400/E8500 are top of the heap for performance/price right now along with the ATI video cards ability to pass HDMI 7.1 sound and video through the HDMI cable and they game pretty good too.
