Help with building gaming computer!

Hello, I'm planning on purchasing a new computer, I want a pretty good gaming computer with an i7 Processor. My budget is $1,500 to $1,800 dollars. I'm thinking about just building my own, but I have no clue where to start on parts? Would it be easier to buy a pre-built on newegg?

I may be wrong but I think the price range on the i7's are pretty steep, anywhere from $2000 - $3000 (at least for Australia). If I'm right, then you'll have a fantastic CPU, but not much else. ;)

But the motherboards and tri channel DDR3 will eat up that budget in no time.

From all I read so far the i7 isn't a revolutionary leap and the lower end does not have an edge over current hardware (E8500 on a P45)

Look at the 2 Core Duo E8500 with either the P45 or X48 system. You will have a terrific gaming system and be well within your budget.
By all means, build your on. Great fun and a terrific learning experience. With the help from this forum and the internet, you will not have any trouble.
Also great pride in the fact that you created the system.
