in my enermax 1000w manual it says :

also what do you think 'signal abnormal' refers too, as the manual may have been written by an english speaking taiwanese person.

well i tried to do a process of elimination by gradually unplugging and then turning on,

i'm down to the bare bones now, no case fans, USBs L.E.Ds, etc (which I suspected i may have short curcuited, though they worked

just the cpu(+fan) , mobo, primary HD, 1 x VGA card, sound card

but the PSU still beeps twice in startup,

but it doesn't always beep twice, about 2 in 10 times it starts fine

i numbered that attached image: '1' was the first thing it does on startup and then '2' , carrys on in normal operation.

must tell you everything:

yesterday old dufus here was removing a vga card and forgot to unplug the HDMI cable and the card became jammed by the 'attachment fin' (?) whatever you call it), against the mobo

but i was able to free it by pulling out the HDMI cable,

the MOBO is slightly scrached,

im aware that there is alot of fine circuitry on the board, yet it seems to be working i'll try to take a photo in a min....

Doesn't sound too good for the psu. Power good or power ok is a signal sent to the motherboard by the psu on system startup when the psu is up and running at the proper voltages. Once the motherboard receives this signal, it tells the psu to power on everything. This is so that components don't receive variable amounts of power as the psu ramps up, and why there's a very short delay between pushing the power button and the system coming to life. Seems to me, and I could be mistaken, that your psu is taking longer than it thinks it should to achieve proper power and gives the warning beeps, then when it's reached it starts normally. One of the tests of a psu with a multimeter is for the power good, test 4 of the grey wire at pin 8. Should be 3-5volts, and if less than 2.5 it won't trigger a start. Can you check with a multimeter? Seems like yours might be right on the line.

The picture was pretty clear, but I don't have a clue if the divot would have an effect or not.
You could also try your power supply in another computer, see if it did the same thing. Either way, I think the psu needs to be ruled out first.

I dont have a multimeter to hand,

but after reading that wiki page i will tell you that on my first start up it said that I had changed the CPU and i should go into BIOS and check the cpu settings,

i tried to do that but couldnt find a place in BIOS to do that so I didnt do anything, made no changes and exited BIOS and it started ok,

mabye the bios still wants me to check the settings

I didnt change the CPU but i did take it out and replace it during the case change

perhaps you can tell me where in an asus striker II formula BIOS i can confirm/ check my cpu, assuming that is the problem.....

try resetting your cmos, it should reacquire the system info after that. The cpu information should be on the main page under system information. Depends on what bios, it'll be in your manual under bios configuration.

edit - yep, main page down at the bottom, system information.

yes, found that pressed enter and there is just one grey, unadjustable line that says-

BIOS revision 1303

try the cmos reset ....... I dont think the scratch is your problem


if the beep continues after the cmos reset ,,,,,,, I would try the power supply in another system

when should i press the cmos reset button,

when the computer is shut down but there is still power to the mobo

or when the system is running

or should i turn off completely and take the cmos battery out for an hour or so....

shutdown the computer / pull the power cord from the power supply / pull the cmos battery ....... with the battery out hit the start up button several times to disipate the juice in capicators

then restore these things and start up ....... enter the bios ... set date and time ....... set boot order

just tried the cmos battery thing and it still beeps,

can i possibly go back to that train of thought about setting the CPU in BIOS,

as I said when I look in 'system information' it just says- BIOS revision 1303

is that what it's supposed to say

Download and run cpu-z. The bios version will be shown in the mainboard tab.

It's a bit odd that of all the bios versions listed on the cpu support page, none of them are 1303, of course maybe that particular version didn't add any cpu's.

1303 is a Beta Bios version from May try flashing the bios to at least the 1602 version.
