[SOLVED] Upgrading my processor and power supply.

I was thinking of upgrading my power supply and processor so I could play some games that would meet the system requirements for the next few years or so. Here is the link for the Computer that I have now but the difference is that I have a 2Gb Memory, GeForce 7300 GT graphics Card, and a SB Audigy SE. What do you recommend for a processor and a power supply that's compatible for this computer?

It's HP pavilion media center desktop a1310n

This is a basic link and if u need more information on show more specifications ask away and what programs that show more of my PC specs. Thank You.

Re: Upgrading my processor and power supply.

Quite honestly, you might want to begin saving for a new rig, because the technology for this older rig might not make upgrades worth your hard earned dollars. As you stated you wanted to make this compatible for games for the next few years and you will have more in a piece by piece rebuild (and still have an outdated rig) than you would if you started and built a new one. That is my opinion.

Re: Upgrading my processor and power supply.

Thanks for the reply. I really dont want the overhaul just yet, I just wanted the final push and make it last for a few more years before I decided to sell it and make a new one. I wouldve done so a year ago but certain roadblocks put me into a different direction. Unless there are no processors that could be considered upgradable or so forth, then I could start saving money again. Thanks for the reply.

Re: Upgrading my processor and power supply.

If you could find one (scarce as hen's teeth), I do believe (no guarantees) that an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Dual Core Processor would work in that board. However, I also think you would have to do a bios upgrade for it to work. This CPU would undoubtely be an upgrade for you. There are others that will fit in there, but not as cost conscious as this one.

I will echo Tumble's advise ...........................

but

if you disagree:

then shop ebay for a used AMD 4400 X2 (make sure its a socket 939 cpu and not AM2)

then you will need a new power supply >>>>> Coolermaster real power pro 650 watt is the hot deal right now at newegg

Video card = ATI 4830 or 9800GT or 8800 GTS or ATI 3870 (shop them for the best deal)
