£600 budget - gamer

For £600 max, how good of a PC can I get?

Would ratehr build my own if it saves money, but I'd *like*..

Core 2 Quad
2-4gb RAM
HD4870 graphics card
Antec 1200 case
500gb - 1tb HDD
500w psu +
Decent-ish mobo, dual PCI-E slots in case I go crossfire at some point

Or am I pushing it lol?

How come you're going for a Quad core? No games (To my knowledge) are able to use all 4 cores at the current moment, and won't be able to for at least 2-4 years, IMO.
I would suggest the Dual Core E8600 if you can afford it: 3.3GHz without overclocking is nothing to turn your nose up at =p

What I'm getting at is that you don't necessarily need to get a Quad core at the moment: As I read in another thread recently, "Todays hardware is more advanced than todays software", or words to that effect.

I would suggest you go for a faster dual core rather than go for a slower quad core.

Re: £600 budget - gamer

Just a word to the wise, a 500 watt power supply of any brand name won't be enough for that video card.

YOu need to be looking at a bare minimum of a 750 watt supply for that card, and if you ever crossfire it, you would need a 1000+ Power supply.

Read this information before you go any further in this gaming adventure:

Power Supply Information and Selection
