[SOLVED] Case Transfer
Now I have a CoolerMaster Centurion with
Intel E8400 3.0 ghz core duo asus striker 2 780i mobo 1x Wd 320 gb YS type HD Vista home premium 2x asus 9800 GX2 VGA in SLI internal card reader, sony i think asus dvd read write dvd drive Enermax 1000w Galaxy PSU last week i bought a thermaltake Xaser aluminium case, CASE-VG4000SWA.jpg of course i would have bought the coolermaster cosmos s but in bangkok theres a hetfy import charge on that one.... but the question is, in transfering the parts can i be pretty gung-ho about it or would i be better off seperating as few parts as possible, for it to work straight away again should i try to keep the mobo and HD together etc, i haven't done anything yet but the reason why i plan to do this is because conditions are pretty cramped in the centurion case due to the size of the enermax galaxy cables and the large 9800gx2s which are backed up against the HD with the PSU cables jammed in the middle i'd rate myself as a novice with a bit of experience such as sucessfully installing a secondary HD in another comp last week.... i have all the manuals which i will look at more thoroughly plus some MX-2 Arctic cooler thermal ready advice appreciated.... BTW i didnt build said setup, the shop where i bought the parts made it for me. |

Re: Case Transfer
Another idea might be to take some pictures with a digital camera. Snap each connection as you remove it kind of thing. Be handy to review when you're putting it back together.

Re: Case Transfer
well i have put all the parts into the Xaser now and all the PSU cables are properly connected,
it is a learning curve, and some of it is easier than expected eg, i found where to plug in the front firewire and usb ports quite easily, they're all marked. plus the led's for the power switches on the power header are all covered in either manual there are a couple of wires from the front of the case that I don't know where to plug in, such as one of the cables from the front of the case labeled HD audio with a branch coming off it labeled AC'97 any ideas where that goes, i was thinking it could be plugged into the supreme FX II soundcard provided with the asus striker II formula mobo plus where do I plug in the sony internal card reader, havent worked that one out yet. |

Re: Case Transfer
i have connected the power supply to the mobo,
the power to the HD and connected the SATA cables , sata 1 being the primary HD sata 2 being the DVD drive sucessfully remounted the mobo in the Xaser case with 'standoffs' plus remounted the ASUS silent knight 2 copper cpu cooler using a some arctic mx-2 thermal |

Re: Case Transfer
here are some photos, its a work in progress, havent turned it on yet, and if if comes to it ill take it back to the comp store....
DSC00971.JPG this is the fire wire connector for the case front port, can I just leave all those pin plugs dangling there? DSC00974.JPG this is the HD audio plug I don't know what to do with, I imagine it's for the case front headphone and mic plugs DSC00975.JPG these are the card reader plugs, i unplugged them from the original setup without looking where they were plugged in, oops! DSC00973.JPG DSC00972.JPG there is also another secondary (WD caviar Blue 640 gb) HD which I will not plug in/install until the original setup is working again. |

Re: Case Transfer
(I was just thinking its a shame my so called extreme gaming rig is less than six months old and the major parts are already out of date:
9800gx2>280GTX ASUS striker II> Maximus II Intel E8400> E8600 They should do trade ins, like with mobile phone deals, you have a contract and can upgrade every six months, they should do it wih cars too, otherwise its a very expensive and wasteful market. But that's another story.) Last edited by hamishgillan; 11-18-2008 at 11:21 PM. |

Re: Case Transfer
Bad time for me, I'm in the stone age here and won't be home for a couple hours. Can't get the manuals until then. Looks like you have both the usb headers filled, does the case have 4 front usb's? Or did you plug your card reader into one of them, that is where the card reader goes, btw. I should be able to see a lot better when I get home, can't even magnify the image on these computers, they'd do much better as doorstops, be nice when the lease is up and they splurge on new ones.

Re: Case Transfer
That's where the card reader connects, not sure if there are some sort of extensions, odd that the cable wouldn't be long enough though. Use the HD audio plug, not the AC'97, there is a header on the supreme fx sound card, you can see the pins sticking out of green plastic by the jog in the cover right where it says supreme fx II.
