first time gaming builder unsure about his components

Im building this machine so i can play wow on the highest settings. I already have a mouse, keyboard, and monitor. My monitor is not dvi or hdmi. its the circle connector with the pins. I hope everything will work. Also, i will probably upgrade my monitor, keyboard, and mouse in the near future. Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Re: first time gaming builder unsure about his components

Hey,

Everything you have there is compatible and you will be able to run WoW on full settings. Other games (far cry, fallout3, etc) will be a little sluggish because of the lack of video card processing power. If I might make a suggestion, you might notice a better fps on WoW with windows XP. OR you could upgrade to 4GB of ram. I say this because Vista uses a lot more memory in the background that could be dedicated to rendering the lands of Northrend.

See you in Naxx

Re: first time gaming builder unsure about his components

Personally I would advise you boost your budger another $150.00 / $200.00 and you wont need another upgrade for 2 years anyway ........ your current planned spec is at the edge of high settings right now!

plan on spending $125.00 on an intel chipset motherboard and $170.00 on a cpu

then bump to the ati 4850

then you will be buying alot more time ............... thats my two cents ........ other than that ..... your spec will work as specified ...... but you will be "starting" at the middle of the pack instead of the front

also ........ I would get the coolermaster centurion case for $50.00 and the Coolermaster real power Pro 650 watt ....... its $50.00 after rebates .......... the 650 watt will allow you to run alot of high end video cards ........ the 550 watt will NOT

Re: first time gaming builder unsure about his components

I appreciate the timely and helpful responses. i dont really want to go the intel route because i want to start playing wow soon, and my budget and bi weekly paychecks only allow me to spend so much at this time. But, i did make a few changes to the Case, PSU, OS, and Video card. so how do you think this system will perform now? I hope I didn't screw up any compatability issues?
