[SOLVED] Upgrade my PC
Sorry if this should be in building. Just wanted input on upgrades for my current rig and figured it fit better here.
I currently own a Compaq Presario SR5505F. Here's HP's site with details on it: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/p...roduct=3740345 I have upgraded it a little bit, like put in 4GB of RAM and a wireless card, but I want to get a new PSU and video card. I was hoping you could recommend a decent PSU from Newegg.com and a vid. card to go with it. I'm not planning to SLI cards, so all I need is a decent PSU and video card. My goal is to be able to run Crysis decently. |

Re: Upgrade my PC
Thanks, I actually went with Newegg.com for the PSU because they had a combo and I got a GeForce 8600 GTS 256MB for $125 together with free shipping and $45 with mail-in rebates, so I got the PSU for $60 and the video card for $15 once I get the money from the rebates.
Thanks for the help, I'm sure I'll be back once I get the stuff to get it setup |

Re: Upgrade my PC
sorry to burst your bubble but the 8600 series won't handle crysis properly - at least at anything above 1200x1096. For that you need a card with at least 512MB video memory as well as more processing power than your card has.
The cheapest card you can get to handle it well at decent resolutions (max 1680x1050) with high gfx settings is the nvidia 8800 gts g92. If you want to be able to run it on resolutions above that you want to get the nvidia 260. My post is very nvidia heavy, if you want to see a comparison of all nvidia/ati cards currently out check the chart at: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...rd,2033-7.html |

Re: Upgrade my PC
Thanks. I actually did end up getting that PSU, but from Newegg because they had a deal where I got that plus an EVGA GeForce 8600 for $120 plus about $45 in mail-in rebates, making the video card like $10. Got it all hooked up and working great. Thank you all for the help:)
