need help new at this

i am kinda new so bare with me pls i am wanting to build a gaming pc well upgrade what i have this is what i got
motherboard is a nvidia nforce 780sli
os is vista 64 bit
video card nvidia geforce 8800 gtx
8 gig of ram 4 of the 8 are patriot and the other 4 are ocz
pcu is an intel core 2 quad q 6600
hard drive s are both seagate 250 gig and a 750 gig
powered by a 1000 watt coolmaster power suply
housed in a coolmaster cmstacker case

my question is should i go amd for gamming some one told me i should
any replys would be greatly appreciated

check your motherboard manufacturers website for cpu compatability ........ see if you can use the 1333mhz FSB cpu's like the E8500 or E8600

they will give you plenty of increase over the Q6600 >>>>>>>>> AMD is a long way behind intel in gaming performance

BTW: if your 780 chipset motherboard cant accept a 1333mhz FSB cpu ...... then I would look to the Intel P45 chipset
