Mistake [SOLVED] Probable PSU problem with new build

Hi guys I am building a new system and have come to a brick wall.

Firstly the system:
motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3R [http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/...roductID=2845]
cpu: Core 2 duo E8400 3GHz
vid card: Gigabyte HD4850 1G (GV-R485MC-1GH) [http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/...roductID=2900]
memory: 2 x 1GB kit DD2 1066MHz 5-5-5-15 [http://www.teamgroup.com.tw/teamgrou...id=1&pl2_id=3]
Also a 500GB SATA seagate, and an LG IDE DVD burner

Finally the psu: silverstone 560W ST56F [http://www.silverstonetek.com/produc...t56f&area=usa]

I built the system and can post fine, single short beep and everything shows up in the bios, but I can't get past "Verifying DMI pool data..." it just hangs there.

Now when I remove the single sata drive I can get past there and boot from a CD but when I try DSL or another linux rescue cd, things look good but still I can't get to the gui and get thrown back into a shell. And since it hangs when the hdd is plugged in there is no chance of installing windows.

When I look at the specs of the psu, it is certified to run 2 4850's in crossfire (not 4870's though) but I thought maybe the 1G (as opposed to 512MB) might be pushing it over the edge.

Any suggestions as to what I can try? Please help! Last time I put a computer together, a 20G drive was considered huge!

Re: Probable PSU problem with new build

I already figured the psu was not enough to drive the system and ordered a silverstone DA850 [ http://www.silverstonetek.com/produc...no=da850&area= ] yesterday.

The psu I have has dual 12V/20A rails, ie 240W each and the idle power of a '4850 is what, less than 200W or so?

According to [ http://www.silverstonetek.com/produc...no=st56f&area= ] the psu should be able to run a dual core cpu and 2 x '4850 no probs and it seems I should have gotten further in the setup than I did. Is there possibly problems other than the power supply?
I've tried underclocking the cpu to 2GHz and setting the DRAM voltage to 2.1V as specified by teamdark and no difference in the behavior.

It just seems weird that the vid card would be creating this behaviour at such an early stage in the boot process, before anything but a text mode is initialized.

Re: Probable PSU problem with new build

In the boot order set CD as the first boot device. Hd should be hooked to sata0 cd/dvd to sata1
Is this a new hard drive or does it have a previous installation on it?
