Are these parts compatible?

Hello every builders,

Can you please see if these parts are compatible?

I have never built any desktop before...

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Here are parts that I have in mind:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad-Core Processor, 2.40 GHz, 8M L2 Cache, LGA 775
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000LRMR26//ref=nosim/connorswebguidec

Motherboard: EVGA 132-CK-NF78-A1 nForce 780i SLI 3xPCI-Express x16 PCI-Express 2.0 Socket 775
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00118FM58//ref=nosim/connorswebguidec

Hard disk: Seagate Barracuda 500 gb
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000UCAQ1G//ref=nosim/connorswebguidec

GPU: EVGA GTX280 1GB
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001B1SFIQ//ref=nosim/connorswebguidec

Sound Card: X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000J1F1BI//ref=nosim/connorswebguidec

Ram: CORSAIR XMS2 DOMINATOR 4GB ( 2 X 2GB ) PC2-8500 1066MHz 240-pin DDR2
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000OFVG1S//ref=nosim/connorswebguidec

PSU: CORSAIR 750w TX Series 80 Plus Certified Power Supply
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000X2677A//ref=nosim/connorswebguidec

Case: Antec nine hundred
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000I5JHB0//ref=nosim/connorswebguidec

OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0015CCG4U//ref=nosim/connorswebguidec

Questions:

Can I use PSU that use less wattage?

I am planning to use only 4 GB of Ram, Is there a way that I can save money by not buying Vista Ultimate?

Can I switch to cheaper motherboard that's not 780i while all the parts remain compatible?
(I am not planning to overclock at all, I'm a casual gamer)

Thank you everyone

(Parts above sum to 1556 USD)

Re: Are these parts compatible?

I've changed some of my parts

Here is the new parts:

CPU: Intel E8500
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...nnorswebguidec

PSU: 750W Corsair TX Series
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...nnorswebguidec

Hard disk: Seagate Barracuda 500 GB
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...nnorswebguidec

Ram: CORSAIR XMS2 DOMINATOR 4GB ( 2 X 2GB ) PC2-8500 1066MHz 240-pin DDR2
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...nnorswebguidec

GPU: EVGA GTX260 896 mb
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...nnorswebguidec

Motherboard: EVGA 123-YW-E175-A1 nForce 750i SLI FTW 775 Mainboard
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...nnorswebguidec

Vista Ultimate 64 bit

Question:

I am planning to mainly use this computer for gaming.

Q1) Should I upgrade from GTX260 to GTX280? (I'm not sure if the extra $$$ worths the extra performance, since I'll be gaming at 720p on my HDTV)

Q2) I am not planning to do SLi, Is there good quality motherboard that included 7.1 HD quality sound? (that is cheaper than EVGA 750i)

Sorry for changing my spec in a short time, I am unable to edit the first post.

The price comes out to be around 1300 USD with the parts above.

Re: Are these parts compatible?

If your not going to run SLI then get away from the buggy 7xx chipset look at a P35 or P45
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...page=3&bop=And

I would go with the P5Q Pro or or Ga P35 DS3L and add one of these if you don't loke the onboard sound > http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102017

Re: Are these parts compatible?

Hi,

Thank you for helping out here...

I've finalized my PC and will order it on monday.

Case: Antec 900 // $110
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129021

Hard disk: Barracuda 500 GB Seagate // $75
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148288

GPU: GTX260 EVGA // $270 (-$40 rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130370

PSU: Corsair 750W TX // $130 (-$20 rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139006

CPU: Wolfdale E8500 // $190
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115036

OS: Vista Home Premium 64 bit OEM // $100
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116488

Ram: Patriot DOMINATOR 4 GB with Fan 1066mhz // $140 (-$40 rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145197

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel // $85
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128337

Total: With shipping and tax it comes to around $1200
After rebate it'd be around $1100...

I'm not sure if this motherboard runs at 1066mhz for memory standard. Is there any motherboard that would allow me to do so?

I am willing to spending up to $1500 if it worths the performance.

As of now I'm still deciding if I should shoot for GTX280 but I'm running at 720p solution... :

Last Question, I'm not planning to overclock or anything, Should I buy extra fan or arctic paste? I've seen some people buy them but I'm not sure how it works

Thank you very much again.

Re: Are these parts compatible?

The P35 Ds3l will run 1066 native but you'll never overrun 800 unless it's oc'd to instability.

Then I guess the parts above are ready to be ordered and built?

Any suggestion on extra fans or cooling paste?

Re: Are these parts compatible?

I think there are plenty of fans in the 900, you could use some Arctic Silver on the heat sink be sure to clean off the oem paste/pad with the highest percentage alcohol you can find at the drug store though.
Other than that it looks good.

Re: Are these parts compatible?

Hm... Looks like the link is dead...

Well... I've recently bought arctic paste along with the computer parts...

I discovered that it would be a great idea if I also buy Arcticlean...

But then u said earlier that I can just use isopropyl alcohol to clean the OEM paste.

I'm very new here and I dont want to destroy any parts...

Would you suggest me to get the arcticlean, or it is that easy that I can use my noobish skill and clean it with alcohol from drug store?

The arcticlean is about 6 dollars but also the shipping is 6 dollars :(

Re: Are these parts compatible?

Alcohol is fine, just make sure you get the highest purity you can. The 70% alcohol, or whatever it is, isn't good enough as it has too many impurities. Look for 90%+. I have the ArctiClean and it works great, but have used alcohol too and it works nicely too. Only real difference is the 2 stages with the ArctiClean, cleaner and purifier.

Now I've got all my parts...

I'm not sure where to start....

Which parts do I install in order?

Should Motherboard goes first or PSU?

Can you please tell me a rough idea of what to install first in order?

Re: Are these parts compatible?

I'm worried about the static charge...

Is there anyway to avoid them without using anti static strap (as I have no time to buy it)?

Re: Are these parts compatible?

I finished the build but it won't start up...

When I press the power button, LEDs on antec flash and then the power died...

It looks like the fan is going to move but then somehow the power went off...

:( What should I do?

Re: Are these parts compatible?

I am unable to take the motherboard off the case...

The screw stuck on it as I can't use simple screw driver to take it off....

Its like a screw bridge...

The LED light flash on the motherboard when I turn it on though... but then everything stop working...

Can it be the screw under my motherboard that cause the shortage?

Re: Are these parts compatible?

Ah... I realized that I used the wrong power cord..

However, another problem...

The fans are running good, graphic card fans are running, ram fans are running...

But when everything is up running.... 3 seconds later everything shut off

and it reboots by itself.... :(

What might cause this problem?

It seems like harddisk do not spin though...
