New Build, Case Question ????????

Hey there guys. I have a question regarding a build I'm trying to do. I have a case from a Dell Dimension 3000. A friend of mine had this PC, but do to a flood in his place, water damaged the PC and he wanted me to build him a new one. After some time, he ended up purchasing a new Dell and doesn't need me to build him a new PC after all.

Well, I plan to use the empty case (I gutted the case, water had reached well above a quarter way up the case, everything inside was damaged), and build a new PC and sell it on ebay or something.

My question is, how can I use this case, and be able to use the case's On/Off switch to power on the mobo I'm going to put in it? The case's wires (HD activity/ Power On/ Etc...) have a plug at the end which plugged in to the original motherboard that used to be on that PC.

The motherboard I'm putting in this case is an Intel D845GERG2 mATX socket 478, with a Pentium 4, 2.0GHz processor.

Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Re: New Build, Case Question ????????

Your better off buying a new cheap case then trying to use an OEM Dell case if the motherboard fits you'll have trouble hooking up the front panel which is made to work with Dell boards.

Re: New Build, Case Question ????????

I thought about just buying a cheap case, but figured I use the Dell case being that I had no use for it. Besides buying another case, is there any other way that I can use the Dell case, and somehow cut and splice the wires coming from the front panel and then connecting to the mobo?

Re: New Build, Case Question ????????

It's possible but first you need to make sure the board you get fits in the case and lines up with the stand offs so it doesn't short out and the the back plate lines up Dell has there own proprietary boards and they move things around, for example there is no fan on the cpu it uses a heat sink and a duct connected to the case fan for cooling so you'll have to change that around.
Try googling to see if you can find the front panel pin outs for the 3000 not all dells are the same either the newer ones have a front panel logic board but yours shouldn't.

Re: New Build, Case Question ????????

I haven't received the mobo yet, so once I do I will confirm that everything fits and the everything is in place. I never thought about Dell's proprietary design, now that you mentioned it, I'm hoping that its does fit. I really don't want to have to buy a new case, but if the mobo doesn't align and the front panel wiring gives me a hard time, I guess I have no choice. Thanks for the link to the case. I checked it out, and if I have to buy one, this is a great choice.
