Building a New PC (Gaming/Design)

Hello all and thanks for taking the time to read this. My current PC is coming to it's last days and the time has come for me to finally put it to rest after 5 long years. I've come here to look for help in putting together a PC with custom parts. I apologize for any misunderstandings as I'm not too familiar with building them. I'll answer all questions to the best of my ability.

1. Budget: $1,000

2. Brands: No specific likes or dislikes.

3. Multitasking: A ton, usually 5-8 windows open and at least 5 programs running on their own.

4. Gaming: This will probably be the main function of this PC, probably several hours a day with the newest games coming out.

5. Calculations: This is a maybe, currently I'm aiming for my associates in 3D Digital Design and Animation but as I've just started, I'm not sure exactly how much I'm going to be working with calculations-wise.

6. Overclocking: No plans on overclocking.

7. Storage: Not an issue, I plan to keep my old internal 120GB HD and have an external 1TB one.

8. Legacy Support: Not sure at all if I'm going to need this.

9. Operating System: Curently have XP Pro installed but am willing to upgrade to Vista.

10. Case: I'll probably need help selecting a proper case for this new PC, this will probably be the last step though. I want one that's just about the right size to fit all the parts I'll be upgrading to, nothing unnecessarily small or enormous. Preferably as many USB ports as possible.

11. Accessories: I'm good on keyboard and mouse at the moment.

12. Recycled Components: Internal Hard drive, CD-ROM drive, and DVD drive.

13. Monitor: My current one is fine.

14. Stores: I'll probably be making the purchases off NewEgg unless someone has a better site in mind to buy it off.

15. Location: United States.

Current System Specs (Can elaborate more if needed/I missed something)

Memory: 1022RAM
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce FX5200
Sound card: SB Live! Audio [AC00]

Once again, thanks to all who take the time to read this and respond. I'll try to keep updated with responses as much as possible.

Re: Building a New PC (Gaming/Design)

Have a look through this I included Vista 64 bit and 4gig with a quad to handle the 3d design and animation software for just gaming I would go with 32 bit and a E8500 dual but the 3D animation is better served by the quad. You may want change out the case for something that appeals to your taste/style and the PSU rebate may or may not be extended past the end of the month, also look at the shipping cost you may be better off getting the PS U from newegg or do a search to find the cheapest prices as well
