needing advice for my new build
Hi all, I'm in the process of having to build a new system and after some reading cant decide on which cpu yet, I know a quad core is better but i heard somewhere alot of software doesnt take full advantave of the quad cores yet...is this corret?
the system i'm building is... MB - Gigabyte GA X48 DQ6 Video card - Asus Radeon 4870 512mb Memory - Corsair PC2 8500 1066Mhz 4x 1 Gb Audio - Auzentech X-Fi Prelude 7.1 (with 637SM front OPA) H.D. - 2 x 500Gb Seagate 16Mb Cache CPU - Undecided... Core2Duo E8500 3.16Ghz 1333fsb 6mb cache Core2Duo E8600 3.33Ghz 1333fsb 6mb cache Core2quad 2.66Ghz 1333fsb 6mb cache also 2 x Noctua 120mm case fans at 1300rpm is this seeming a good system so far and if anyone else was building this system which of the cpu's would you pick....is the quadcore really worth it yet when most applications dont take full advantage of the 4 cores Thanks |

Re: needing advice for my new build
Gaming is still Dual core faster cpu speed is better then extra cores, If you compare the Q6600 to the E8500 the E8500 is better then the Q6000, the exceptions are intense image editing/ video editing programs written to use all the cores.
This article is about the E7200 but look at the graphs where they compare it to the Q6600 and the E8400 > http://www.techspot.com/review/100-i...00/page10.html What PSU are you planing on using? |

Re: needing advice for my new build
For a 4870 you will need to up it a bit to at least a 750w and maybe a better Brand since Antec stopped using Seasonic internals they haven't been as good as they use to be.
Seasonic - any model Corsair - any model Thermaltake - "Toughpower" series only Coolermaster - "Real Power Pro" series only PC Power & Cooling - any model Silverstone - any model |

Re: needing advice for my new build
Do you plan on using anything else in your PC like hard drives CD/DVD burners, usb devices fans, card readers ??? 57-41 = 16. And on trios 1 rail is dedicated to the CPU so subtract that amperage.
