Re: 1st time System Build !! Help
The CoolerMaster Elite RC-330 looks to be a nice case, never used one, but have used a centurion 534+ and it was decent. It's 48 and change at tigerdirect.ca and they have locations in the GTA. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...41413&CatId=32
It's also available cheaper at directcanada.com, but I don't know if they have any brick and mortar stores, or where they're located. Probably have to factor in shipping and then it'd be more expensive. Could try contacting them and see if they have a pickup option. http://www.directcanada.com/products...e=COOLERMASTER Tigerdirect does have one really really cheap case, don't know if I'd like to put anything in it though. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...09676&CatId=32 There are more cases under $50. You'd have to look and see if you like any, some may be fine. Here's their 25-49 range cases. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...49.99&CatId=32 PSU is something of a problem, you can get cheap ones, but it truly is a case of getting what you pay for. I order all my stuff from www.ncix.com , but they ship out of BC, only way you're going to come close to 80 (if you can) is buying from somewhere that you can pick it up. I got a 400 watt SeaSonic from ncix recently for 50 bucks and that's a great deal. Be advised though, if you are going to run any video card besides the onboard, you'll need a larger and more expensive power supply. You can get away if it's a real low end one, like the HD 2400 I use with the SeaSonic. So, what are your plans for video? Onboard or a card, and if a card, how much of one? In fact, if you ever plan on doing any upgrading in the future, you might want to look at a larger supply now, they can last through more than just one build if it's a good one. There's the OCZ StealthXStream 500 watt. Picked up a 600 watt model of this psu a few months ago for my parents machine. The 500 is 54 bucks after a 20 dollar rebate. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...2959&CatId=106 There are a lot of cheap ones, but I'd steer clear of them, you don't want your machine relying on stable power from some 20 or 30 buck psu, in the end it will let you down. Re: 1st time System Build !! Help
If it's a retail cpu, it comes with an HSF (heatsinkfan), OEM is just the cpu with no fan, you have to watch for that. The stock fans are ok, as long as your not overclocking, also they are a tad louder than an aftermarket HSF. If you're budgeting for an HSF, use the stock and put the money towards a decent power supply.
The case fans vary, some cases have lots, all the way down to none. Good airflow is crucial to low temperatures, dead air causes heat buildups. You should have at least one rear exhaust fan, aside from the psu, to pull the hot air out of the case. The case/psu combo you linked to isn't much of a deal, specially if you're like the one reviewer and the psu lasts all of 28 minutes. When a psu dies, it can take other parts of your system out with it too. Voltage spikes eh. In the end you'll have to decide how much of a gamble you want to take, personally I wouldn't touch a case/psu combo with the proverbial ten foot pole. |

Re: 1st time System Build !! Help
It's not the best, but sure a lot better than a no name psu. Much better plan than the combo and I doubt you'll ever regret it. I was actually favourably impressed with my dad's 600 watt StealthXstream, can't hear it at all. Over the cpu fan anyway. Now I need to fit in some more case fans and a quiet HSF, but only go there once a year so won't be till next summer. Thousand clicks away eh.
An inexpensive case is ok, it isn't critical to the running of the machine, just makes a difference in ease of installation and cooling. Make sure to monitor your temps for a bit once you get it up and running, just to make sure. If it's too hot you can always add case fans relatively cheaply. |

Re: 1st time System Build !! Help
You're very welcome.
The Thermaltake looks like a nice case. Just read a review on it, though there's one annoying add that comes up on some of the pages. http://www.overclockersclub.com/revi...g_rs_100_case/ |
