My System

Re: New Computer

Ok definately need to upgrade the video card. Look at the HD4850 or the 9800GTX+.
Either of these cards (and even the old one you already selected) need more juice from the PSU.
Look in the 650-750w range from any of these makers:
Antec Trio
Silverstone
Seasonic
Coolermaster "real pro” series only
Thermaltake "Toughpower" series only
Corsair
PC Power & Cooling

EDIT: Unless you are an audio purist, onboard sound will be more than fine. If it truly doesn't work for you, then order a sound card separately.
Also, look for SATA hard drives.

Re: New Computer

Listen to Toucan Sam on the power supply, he is right on the money with his suggestions with the exception of the Antec Trio and they have changed recently who makes their supplies and they are really having trouble. I would not buy the trio, but the rest of the list is superb.

Look at either the Asus P5K - e motherboard or even the Asus P5Q - Pro board. Both are relatively inexpensive as good motherboards go and both are very reliable and overclockable.

I agree also on the video card(s) he has suggested. I tend to favor the ATI 4850 at this time (although I am using an 8800gts at the moment).

You need to take a look at the Antec line of cases.

Sata hard drives are the way to go and not IDE drivers. You need to change that area and look for the biggest cache you can get for a fair price.

I know they aren't much value, but there are times a floppy is important. I would suggest you put the few dollars in and install one.

Re: New Computer

Nice list, but you will be getting a generic power supply (no name supplies are usually junk) and 500 watts is not enough to pull that graphics card. That is my opinion. The CPU and motherboard are nice choices as is the case and Sata drive. I like a lot of the build though and it should work well for you. I didn't see what the brand name of the memory was, so could not comment on what I don't know.

Re: New Computer

I'm not a big fan of any of those PSU's
Why do they charge extra for the 1 year "Hassle Free Pickup and Return", if you don't pay the extra $19 do they hassle you when you have a problem???:)
How much does all this come to ?
