Re: Newb Build
I really like your build in most areas. Seems like you have taken care of the issues in a good way. If this were my build, I would substitute an e8400 instead of the quad core. I just think what you want to do would be better served with this CPU. However, don't misunderstand, there is nothing wrong with the selection you made, it is also a great PSU.
BTW, what video card are you looking at, that might impact some other things in this list. Before I made a final decision, that should be a contributing factor to a final decision.

Re: Newb Build
There are so many video cards out there and the newer ones are king from ATI including the 4870 as top dog. The information I am going to give you is simply my personal opinion. Therefore, it would not likely be the same answer anyone else might give you.
If you want a top card, but not the ultimate in performance (much cheaper), then take a look at the 8800gts series. They are very competitive, but again slightly older technology. One has to love that series of cards and they are priced decently. A little more expensive, but a better performer is the ATI 4850 which is a real winner, but although not up to the 4870 is priced better. Presently, that card for the price is one of my favorites. If you simply want one to play a game with now and then, consider the 8600 series from Nvidia. They certainly can't stand up to the big boys, but are a decent and are very reasonably priced in comparison to the big boys. You have to choose what you want to use and spend because that would be a personal choice. If you want to do anything with games, you would not want an onboard video, but the board you have chosen does not have that anyway. Post back with questions/concerns.

Re: Newb Build
Also, doesn't ATI let you send sound over hdmi, if you're watching movies on an hdtv, where with nVidia you have to connect the sound separately?
