Upgrading [Just need links to help build]
Hey guys.
I'm going to be getting some upgrades soonish and need some information concerning what to expect and how to go about it I use my computer for Gaming, Photoshop and everyday things like Emails,Web surfing Forums etc. I currently have: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT GA 965P-S3 2gb Generic RAM And don't know what the PSU wattage is. Yes lets all LOL and such at the RAM MOBO and CPU.....and GPU lol Parts I'm getting are: Intel E8500 GA-EP45-DS3P 2GB Kit DDR2 1066 "Kington unless told otherwise" Future GPU change to 8800GT or 9800GT whatever's better ![]() Questions How would I go about moving my HDD over or is it as simple as unplugging, and should I backup Would it really be worth getting 1066 RAM or just go with 800 And any other info/links I may need to help assist me. Thanks. Last edited by Juztin747; 09-24-2008 at 12:26 AM. |

Re: Upgrading [Just need links to help build]
Find out the make and statistics of your psu by looking inside your case. There should be a sticker or something on the psu saying the amount of watts/amps etc. Anyway if you're looking for a new psu I would recommend the Corsair TX 650w model. It's a very high quality psu, and you should never have a low budget for a psu if your system is high end.
1066mhz isn't really worth it atm just stick with 800. Kingston is a good brand. Good choice on cpu also. Get a 4850 instead, it has the best price/performance ratio on the high end market. Or you could even get a 4870. |

I agree, 1066 is not worth it.
Also, you need to find out your PSU wattage and brand. This is critical to a successful system. I can pretty much tell you right now that you'll have to upgrade that as well. |

Re: Upgrading [Just need links to help build]
The DDR2 800 will work just fine unless you plan on more then a mild oc.
You do need to find out what PSU you have as either of those cards are going to require a quality 650w-750w PSU to run successfully. You can just move the drives over but you need to do a repair install of windows to change the motherboard drivers over to the new board and be aware that according to the EULA on a OEM copy of windows the license is tied to the motherboard. |

Looks like ima have to spend another 150+ for windows lolIntel E8500 GA-EP45-DS3P 2GB Kit DDR2 800 Kingston Corsair TX 650w Windows XP Future GPU change Well really its a whole new computer now haha ![]() EDIT: would the Corsair TX 650w fit in a Centurion 5 case or are the PSUs made at one size? EDIT2: OEM version of windows can I still use that/and whats the difference? Last edited by Juztin747; 09-25-2008 at 01:12 AM. |

Re: Upgrading [Just need links to help build]
The PSU will fit in the case Atx12v psu while not all the same size (some are longer) are made to fit into atx cases.
OEM versiona of windows can be had for less then $100 but are tied to the machine frist installed on(motherboard for the most part) full versions can be moved to another machine if removed from the first, however if your motherboard fails and you have to replace it and the original is no longer available the most of the time you call MS on phone activation and explain what happened and they will give you an activation number, but you will need the disk to do the repair install. |
