Re: New computer rig I'll get this october!
What are you gonna be using it for? If you're into gaming then get a duo core (E8400-E8600) because there's only like 1 or 2 games which use all 4 cores I think. So using a duo core would save you money and increase performance in 99% of games. The E8400 has the potential to overclock to 4ghz and slightly beyond.
With that money saved, you could change your graphics card for a 4850/70. If you plan on using a very high resolution then try to get a 1gb+ card (eg instead of getting the 4850 500MB get the 4850 1GB model). The PSU looks good enough to me. Although perhaps you could get a Corsair TX 650w instead because... it's awesome. It doesn't matter much though because I think that Cooler Master is a good enough brand (if someone could confirm this). Change your dvd drive with a SATA one (they have SATA in the name instead of IDE) because they're just better in every way (including cable management). IDE are the long white strips you see in old computers, while SATA are small purple/pink cables. Everything else looks fine to me... |

Re: New computer rig I'll get this october!
I agree with most of the above.
Things to change: 1- PSU. Choose from this list: Seasonic – Any Model Corsair – Any Model PC Power & Cooling – Any Model Thermaltake – “Toughpower” Series Only Coolermaster – “Real Power Pro” Series Only Silverstone – Any Model and look in the 750w range. http://www.provantage.com/corsair-cm...x~7CSMC05E.htm 2- definately change the CPU. For half the money you can get better performance. No game on the market to date uses all 4 cores. They're just beginning to use 2. 95% of all games are being made for a single core. Get either an e8400 or for only $20 more the e8500. 3- RAM. 1066 ram is overrated. and overpriced. 230$ for ram?? $80 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...184-_-Homepage you can probably find the same thing on the site you're using. |

Re: New computer rig I'll get this october!
Change out the PSU to one of those listed by Toucan.
I also agree the memory isn't going to benefit you For stock or slight over clocks on the EP 45 DS3L DDR2 800 at 4-4-4-12 For higher clocks go to the 1066 but you don't need to go overboard it's hard to overrun the 800 even with a E8500 clocked up to 3.8 |

Re: New computer rig I'll get this october!
So finally I will be getting 4 gigs of Corsair Ram @ 800mhz (http://www.sohodiffusion.com/produit.asp?num=7826)
I might get the E8500 Like you guys said.. What are the advantages over the Quad Cores? Isn't it better to have Quad? I think I might get the Q9300 instead, or the Q6600.. That will be my case: http://www.sohodiffusion.com/produit.asp?num=5004 Changed it because I was told that this case was awesome and it had an amazing sound management. I changed my mobo to the Gigabyte EP45 DS4P http://www.sohodiffusion.com/produit.asp?num=9515 I was told that this one is way better. Or I might choose the Asus P5Q Deluxe... My CPU Fan will be the almighty Asus Triton 79 Amazing = http://ca.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=...42&modelmenu=1 I'm not sure yet about the GFX Card because I was thinking of getting Mac running on my computer.. And the HD 3870 is the highest possible card that is compatible with OSX86... I might also throw that idea away since windows7 should be out in about a year... Not really sure. My screen might also be smaller (22inch) instead because 24 inches is just too huge. Altho that I like the full hd on the 24inch.. Oh And I'm changing the DVD drive to that: http://www.sohodiffusion.com/produit.asp?num=4799 :P Oh ya might get that PSU: http://www.sohodiffusion.com/produit.asp?num=3967 I wanted my Computer to be as quiet as possible and the Corsair is really loud with its 35+-Db Any more feedback?

Re: New computer rig I'll get this october!
If you have programs like Adobe CS3/4 products or high end video editors creators or newer CAD software that will use all of the 4 cores then a quad is the way to go, games just discovered there are dual cores out there so don't look for them to use all 4 of the cores for higher end video cards it's still about clock speed so E8400 will out perform a Q6600 or a Q9300 in games now if you went to a Q9650 you could pick up an advantage along with the extra cost. This is why Intel is looking to add a feature in the next generation quad chips to give them the ability to clock up 1 core and shut the others down when they're not being used under load, along with hyperthreading on the cores (each core looks and behaves like 2) similar to what use done with the P4's but that will also need software(programs) written to take advantage of it so don't look for that to be useful anytime soon.

I do have Adobe CS3 so I can work on those pictures I take.. I was thinkin of overclocking the **** out of my Q6600 also, since I will have a 80$ CPU fan, why not use it? Say that I overclock my Q6600 to at least 3.00 Ghz.. Should I still buy the e8500 instead? I like to game but I'm not that much into it.. I'm planning on playing diablo3 and sc2 and such on this computer. COD4 also maybe more games. heh, well see... So.... e8500 or else? (I WILL overclock)

Re: New computer rig I'll get this october!
If your not into heavy gaming you can save some cash by using the DS3R, or P5Q Pro if you want Raid Or the DS3L, P5Q SE if you don't.
If your graphic editing is not intense I.E. multiple large images I would still go with the E8500 and OC it to a mild 3.6 with plenty of stability and less heat and fan noise. OSX/Final Cut will use 1 or 2 cores. Don't overdo the video card with the smaller screen size/resolution you won't need it. The PSU you selected is a very good one you may also want to look at a Coolermaster Real Power Pro > http://www.sohodiffusion.com/produit.asp?num=6510 |

I'll get the E8500 thanks for your advice :D And for the Screen, I will finally take the 24 inches screen I got a nice deal for 400$ (only 60$ more than what I wanted before) so yeah. Should I go with HD3870 or HD4850? What are the biggest differences? Will I need a videocard that powerfull?

Re: New computer rig I'll get this october!
Take a look here the bench marks a done by game, screen resolution, settings >http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/g...-v1-6,746.html
The 4850 would be my choice for the $175-$200 range (US) But if your not doing a lot of gaming maybe a 9600GTS or a 8800GT are pretty cheap Also I like the HD/HDMI capabilities of the ATI cards over the Nvidia Cards |
