I don't want to run hot.
I'm purchasing more or less the upgrades discussed in this thread. I changed my mind on two things though: the graphics card and the amount of RAM. I'm going to get this 4850 instead of the 8800, and 4 Gigs of RAM instead of 2 Gigs.
So my latest selection will be :
Now the AMD 5400+ CPU and the ATI 4850 graphics card are both known to run hot. I dont want that - obviously. So I'm looking at newegg for fans, but I'm lost. Do I need a case fan or a CPU fan...or both? Please help. These fans look powerful but what do I need? What should I get? Thanks. Oh and budget-wise...say no more than $40. It's not a hard number, but I'd like to stick close to it. Last edited by akedm; 09-19-2008 at 04:37 AM. |

Re: I don't want to run hot.
With the ATI 4850 there is a trick in the Catalyst Control Center to change the fan speed to the desired speed. Factory settings on it is around 30% I think and you can change it to higher and it stays way cooler although it does increase the noise a bit.
I have mine on 60% and it stays around 50C full load and around 42C idle. |
