First Time PC Build

I am planning to build my first pc with a budget of around $1000. This pc will be used for mostly gaming and some graphic design work as well as streaming HD movies to my xbox 360.

Any recommendations, please let me know! Thanks in advance. I just want to make sure that I can OC my cpu and memory.

Thanks!

Re: First Time PC Build

G.SKILL RAM is a little iffy. If I were you I'd go for something from a more reliable company like OCZ, Corsair, or Kingston.
Try this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145197

Fast, reliable ram that has heat sinks and a fan for the same price (after rebate). Just make sure your case has enough room. Other than that, it's a pretty solid build

Re: First Time PC Build

I am yet to find a problem with G.Skill RAM. I have used it for many of my customers. Kingston would not be my choice.

Consider - OCZ, Corsair, Mushkin. I have had the most experience with OCZ (and good experience), out of those.

QuadCore for gaming is probably not a good choice, there are few titles that will take advantage of the cores.
May want to consider the E8600...should be a great CPU too.

PSU - consider a 650W+ from Corsair, PC Power & Cooling or Seasonic
If you look around Wrench97 has recommended a great 750W PSU for a good price at Provantage...I am pretty sure it is Corsair.

Was wondering about GSkill .. never heard of it either. Corsair seems to be reasonably priced. Thanks for the recommendation.

Gaming is not all i will be using it for. I will also be using for streaming movies, etc. Also, my wife will be using it for Graphic Design work as well.

I was told that the 750w I had put in the build previously was overkill so i dropped it down to 600w. I will look for that 750W psu.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Unless the graphic design work is on the heavy side - I dont think that you'll benefit from it...streaming movies may not consume a lot of your cpu.

It is your choice, i think it would be an overkill but it is definitely more future proof than the dual core.

What I would do...get the Core 2 Duo and make sure my mobo can support quad cores...when quad cores are more mainstream and cheaper...get that.
