[SOLVED] Just built a new PC, monitor on standby. Please help.
I recently built a computer for a family member, and the monitor will not show anything.
I have built my past three computers, several friends computers, and my sisters computer, and this is the first one that has me stumped. My family member was working off a very tight budget, and did not really need to do much with the computer but speed things up a bit, and instead of letting them buy an EMachine from wal-mart for 350.00, I told them I would build them one for the same price that is better. Here are the specs, along with links. Case:(I know its crappy, but they talked me into buying a cheap one against m better judgment.) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811240003 MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131249 Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121235 CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103211 RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145015 Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136195 CDROM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827101131 But, like I said before, as soon as I hook the monitor up to the computer, it instantly goes to standby. I tried hooking the monitor up to the added graphics card, and the built on graphics card, and both give the same issue. I have tried two different monitors, and even on the off chance that it was the wall socket, I tried a different one. I have not installed anything on this computer yet. I finished putting it together this afternoon, and have been wondering why nothing has worked. Hoping to hear some ideas for this issue. Thank you. |

Whats the deal/specs with the psu that came with the case? Cant
be a real barn burner at that price. Do you have another psu to try?

The PSU was my first thought, but no I actually don't have another one to try. I guess I will have to drive back to civilization to pick one up and test that. I'll let you know how it goes.

Re: Just built a new PC, monitor on standby. Please help.
Are you getting any beeps? does the case have a speaker, or is there
a little speaker bud on the board? If you pull the ram do you get any beep codes? Are you sure the board is not grounding on the case somewhere, wayward screw, standoff in the wrong spot. Have you tried clearing cmos? I would pull the ram first, if you dont get any beeps, I would have to suspect a bad board. You need to go through everything above I mentioned in order to come to that conclusion. You may try running the board outside of the case, set it on some cardboard, this will eliminate the possibility of grounding, unless its already grounded out and fried the board. Hope not...

Re: Just built a new PC, monitor on standby. Please help.
Ram is compatible, resetting the CMOS did it. Sorry that it took so long to post again, was installing windows and drivers. But, all is well. Thank you very much for the help :)
