Gaming Build
Hi there, im planning on making a new build as my old PC is no longer up to gaming standard...so it can be for work now :D
So far ive come up with this off e-buyer: Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3 P43 Socket 775 audio ATX Motherboard XFX 9800GT 512MB DDR3 Dual DVI HDTV Out PCI-E Graphics Card OCZ 2GB KIt (2x1GB) DDR2 1066MHz/PC2-8500 Reaper Memory HPC Edition Dual Channel Kit CL5 Asus Arctic Square Socket 775 / AM2 / 754 / 939 / 940 Processor Cooler Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 2.53GHz (1066MHz) Socket 775 3MB L2 Cache Retail Boxed Processor I have a few questions about it though. Im planning to overclock, so if anyone could tell me what they reckon, roughly, i could overclock my CPU, gfx card and RAM to i would be very grateful...if you reckon its worth overlcocking it all. If it is worth it, would it be worth purchasing a RAM fan and gfx card cooler? also, i was wondering what wattage PSU i should get for this rig, so if anyone could tell that would be brilliant. Thanks alot! |

Re: Gaming Build
If you can afford to push up the budget a tad then I would recommend the E8400 CPU (which brings you to duo 3GHz). And you should check out the 4850 video card, it has the best price/performance ratio on the market today. I would also go for 4GB ram especially if you're planning to use Vista.
I don't know much about overclocking but I've seen people overclock the E8400 up to 4GHz. It would be a good idea to buy extra cooling if you're overclocking to the extreme. If you're just overclocking a few MHz here and there, I wouldn't spend a fortune on it... If you don't plan on overclocking much, I would recommend this CPU cooler to save a few pennies. Power-wise, I would say you'd need around 500-600w to sit comfortably. And make sure you buy a high quality power supply not just the cheapest you can find (avoid cases which come with a power supply because they suck most of the time). I would recommend this. Hope that helped! |

Re: Gaming Build
Hi.
Im suprised Linderman has not been here before me Backing up the P35 ![]() I would change the motherboard for the P35 DS4, ive heard stories about the newer chips and they didnt impress me . Also, If you can get the E8400, These are great Overclockers and will sit at 4Ghz. As for the RAM, You can overclock that but really there would be no need as 1066mhz is fast enough. The 9800GT will also overclock, How much? Im not enterily sure, but make sure to keep an eye on the Tempretures !! PSU wise - Thermaltake toughpower 750W / OCZ GameXstream 700W / PC Power & Cooling / Seasonic . ![]() Last edited by HawMan : 09-03-2008 at 05:43 PM. |

Re: Gaming Build
I completely agree with the PSU suggestions above. And the CPU suggestion.
The 9800gt gfx card does not impress me. It is not noticably different from the 8800gt performance-wise. Look at the 9800gtx+ or the 4850 (or the 4870 for an extra $100 or so) for real power and value. |
