My Build

Over the last few days I have been researching what parts to buy for my new affordable crossfire gaming system. For the mean time though, I will only be using one card. But I will have a motherboard and power supply which can support crossfire when I have enough money to buy the second card.

Motherboard: Asus P5E3 Intel X38 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard £117.49
PCU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 £117.49
RAM: GeIL 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz Black Dragon DDR2 £58.74
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Blue 640GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM £52.86
PSU: Corsair TX 750W ATX2.2 SLI Compliant £82.24
GPU: HIS ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB £119.84
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-2014L1T 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer Lightscribe ReWriter (Black) - OEM £18.79
Cooling: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler £17.61
Case: Antec Three Hundred £35.24

Without a new monitor, the total is £620.30.

However I need a new monitor, I've had this one for years and it's max resolution is only 1280x1024. I want to be gaming at 1680x1050.

Monitor: Samsung SM-T200 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Rose Red £187.99. Or this, or this, or even this!

With a new monitor, the total price is £808.29.

At the moment my peripherals are really bad quality, so if I was to buy new ones...

Headset: SpeedLink Medusa £16.44
Keyboard: Cherry Black CyMotion Expert (USB/PS2) £14.09
Mouse: Logitech MX518 Gaming-Grade Optical Mouse £27.19

With peripherals, the total price is £866.01

Any advice/recommendations for the build is welcome (:

While this is a good motherboard you have selected, you might want to look at the P5Q3 with the P45 chipset. That chipset is more advanced (and I think more stable) than the one you have selected and is about the same price (maybe even cheaper).
