another 1st timer looking for advice

Here is what I'm looking at so far.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100005

I'll be using the pc for gaming(mmos and shooters),vent, fraps,I.M and music. At some point i def plan on adding another 4870 and OC to around 3-3.5ghz. Down the road would i be able to add a card reader/dvd burner to this to play around with photoshop?
I've been reading alot of threads here and I see where alot of you guys stand on dual vs quad,it just seemed for the small price dif quad would prolly be the better way to go?? I'm hoping to keep this build for 3-4 years and still be able to run games decently.I'm itching to pull the trigger on this, just wanna make sure i do it right, thanks in advance to anyone taking the time out to give any advice, much appreciated.

Get a duo core. You'll save money and increase performance in games. There aren't any games which use all four cores so getting them is a waste of time. I would recommend the E8400. Everything else looks good to me.

Re: another 1st timer looking for advice

I could never recommend a Rosewill power supply. Try one of these brand names for quality power supplies:

Seasonic – Any Model
Corsair – Any Model
PC Power & Cooling – Any Model
Thermaltake – “Toughpower” Series Only
Coolermaster – “Real Power Pro” Series Only
Silverstone – Any Model

Re: another 1st timer looking for advice

I would use this instead of the thermal adhesive you really don't want to glue the heat sink to the CPU> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835100007

As for the Quad debate, you did pick a faster one most of the time we are comparing the comparably priced Q6600 to the E8500 so you are a little closer in speed but $140 more if performance/price ratio isn't an objective it will handle photoshop better.

Re: another 1st timer looking for advice

For 2 HD4870's I would want at least 850w more to be on the safe side as they do lose capacity as they age.

Re: another 1st timer looking for advice

well i decided to go with the e8600 over the quad and before I order these parts I was just wondering if anyone uses the same case/motherboard/cpu cooler? If so did you order the retention bracket for the cooler and will I still be able to fit a extra 120mm fan on the side panel? thanks!
