Black Screen With New Build
An experienced builder and I (a new builder), have had a strange problem with the build. When we try to boot the computer to install the OS and such, we only get a black screen. When we called EVGA they said it was very strange and we should atleast see a BIOS screen. We are not hearing any beeps on startup, and I'm pretty sure everything is wired correctly. I'm sure the answer must be decently simple, like a grounding issue or something like that, but I was wondering if anyone had any advise.
Components: Mobo: Gigabyte EP45-DS3L Video Card: EVGA 8800GT 512MB CPU: Intel Dual Core E8400 RAM: Corsair (2x 2GB) |

Re: Black Screen With New Build
first were gonna try and eliminate the possibilites
im gonna tell you how to reseed your RAM 1. Unplug the computer(completely) 2. open the computer up 3. GROUND YOURSELF(meaning whnever you touch anything inside the case, you better make sure your holding onto the meatal part of the case, or you might short something like your mobo out with static,(ALWAYS KEEP A HAND ON THE CASE)) 4. take out all the RAM 5. Put one stick in and try to boot up the cpu, make sure they snap in place(dont push too hard though) 6. keep on trying this until all sticks of RAM are in did you get any response from the system when you did this?

Re: Black Screen With New Build
Hello and welcome to TSF...
First would be nice to tell us what make/model is your PSU and is PSU new like other parts??? Unplug all components and leave only CPU, RAM and graphic card hooked up to Motherboard... Start PC to see if something will show up... Also check this out too: How to Bench Test Your System Make sure you have everything plugged properly... Did you connect graphic card directly with PSU [your card directly get power from PSU] ??? Try diferent graphic card, diferent RAM... Do all of this and tell us about progress...

Re: Black Screen With New Build
The PSU is a brand new EarthWatts 500W PSU. And yes, my card is plugged into the PSU.
The more experienced builder has been thinking that it is either the video card or the mobo's PCI-E slot. And we can't test if it's the video card because we don't have any other video cards, and we can't test if it's the PCI-E slot because there is only one on the board. We do not have any DDR2 RAM, so we will have to go to a computer shop to test that. Tommorow, because the experienced builder doesn't want to spend that much time today, we will test grounding as well, by taking the mobo out of the case and having just the video card and such plugged in and having the mobo sit on a grounded object like the case the mobo came in. And then, also, on Tuesday we are planning to bring the computer to a local computer shop and asking to have our video card and RAM tested there in one of their computers. If neither of those are the faulty part then we will assume it is the Mobo. So, I'll be sure to post my results tommorow after the grounding test, and then once again Tuesday after we visit a local computer shop. Last edited by BlackScreened:( : 08-31-2008 at 02:15 PM. |
