Will this combination work for my first PC build?
I have decided to build my dream machine. I will be building it in stages just to help financially. I have jotted down a parts inventory & wanted to get some feedback as to whether everythings compatible e.t.c Or even if you just think it would be better/cheaper with somthing else. So here it is so far:
Antec 1200 Case - £102 Thermaltake Tough Power W0171 1500Watt PSU - £189 Asus Striker II Extreme Nvidia 790I Ultra SLI DDR3 Mobo Socket 775 - £258 Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz 12MB Cache 1333FSB - £223 3 x BFG Geforce GTX 280 OCX 1GB DDR3 - £960 Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) PC312800 dual channel DDR3 1600MHz 9-9-9-24 - £146 Asus DVD drive x 2 £40 (Asus ones seem to be quieter) For the hard drive can someone tell me which ones are quieter out of Seagate, maxtor, samsung, hitachi & any others you can think of. Monitor will be a 24/28 inch one havn't decided yet on that one. So yeah what do you think? What would you change? |

that is quite some serious power, but i would just go with 2 bfg video cards, maybe even one, thats all you'll need, and what kind of cooling are you getting on the processor

Re: Will this combination work for my first PC build?
Hi guys,
I havn't really decided on the cooling as I havn't had much experience is that area. Need to do some research on that. Any suggestions? Also I hear what your saying about the GPU's but I really want to build a crazy *** machine, its like say buying a ferrari you are never going to be able to get full speed out of that car but its nice to have all that brake horse power. Wrench97 oooh thanks. Very interesting article on that mobo. Do you have any suggestions on a alternate mobo? I mean I only really went for that because it seemed to be the best one on my local pc website. |

Not for a SLI rig Nvidia is the only choice and it's not a good one at this point, have you looked at the 4870 ATI cards?

Re: Will this combination work for my first PC build?
Another thing to point out you seem to be concerned about noise level any case with the amount of fans the 900 or 1200 have and 2 or 3 video cards is not going to be quiet I doubt you would hear most hard drives over the fan noise and I don't think you can water cool a GTX260 card yet.
I am not a fan of water cooling anyway it has it's uses but it's a hassle when something goes wrong. |
