Red Faced Blank Monitor - Trying to install O/S

Hello..

I just recently bought a Gateway GM5632E 2.4gh 3GB 1000GB DVDRW DL. It is a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600The hard drive was cleared of all data and I need to install Windows Vista Home Premium as the operating system. I have the CD and official Windows #'s, etc. My problem is that when I hook up my old monitor (which is a Dell, not sure of the model number, but it's a 17 inch flat screen and is about 4 years old) it is just blank. I put the CD into the drive and the computer makes the usual loading sounds, but nothing appears on the screen. How can I install the operating system if the monitor does not work? Do I have to buy another monitor or am I totally going about this the wrong way?

Thanks,

Lori

Re: Blank Monitor - Trying to install O/S

Just a quick question regarding graphics cards---

Aside from having an onboard graphics card, does this workstation also have a PCI or PCI-e Video card?

Re: Blank Monitor - Trying to install O/S

I am not sure, only think I see about the graphics card is that it is a NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT featuring DirectX 10 support. I also see:

Modem Fax / modem - PCI - Plug-in card

Expansion Slots Total (Free) 4 ( 0 ) x Memory - DIMM 240-pin, 1 ( 0 ) x Processor - LGA775 Socket, 2 ( 1 ) x PCI, 2 ( 1 ) x PCI Express x1, 1 ( 0 ) x PCI Express x16

Sorry that is all I know....?

Make sure that you have your monitor plugged into the Video card in the expansion slot--not the onboard video card.
