New PSU for 8800gtx sli?
Hi everyone, I was wondering if I need to upgrade my PSU
if I'm going to add another 8800gtx to my rig. I have a 750watt thermaltake, here is the exact model http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153038 I have had it for over a year and has run my system flawlessly. - c2d e6600 @ 3.3ghz - 8800gtx - 4GB RAM - 1 DVD Burner, 1 IDE HD, 1 SATA HD Recently I just added 2GB of ram and the new sata Hd, though it hasn't effected my system in any bad way (BSOD's etc.) though I didn't expect it to. I've been told that this supply would be adequate enough, however I want to make sure. I was also thinking of adding a q6600 or whatever it is called. So here are the 2 questions. 1.) If I were to add a 8800gtx to SLI my rig, do I need a new psu? 2.) If I were to add a 8800gtx & Q6600 to my rig, do I need a new psu? |

Re: New PSU for 8800gtx sli?
The Thermaltake "Toughpower 750" series would certainly run the sli and the Q6600 just fine. However, the regular thermaltake (which you may have) might have a little difficulty running both of those cards. I would suggest you check your model to see which you have. A "toughpower" will certainly do it if that is what you presently have. The other model, well, you could try and see what happens, but not sure if it will or not.
If you need to change power supplies, then go ahead and move up to the 850 since you are moving up to some heavy demands. I would purchase one of the following brand names if you decide to move up: Seasonic – Any Model Corsair – Any Model PC Power & Cooling – Any Model Thermaltake – “Toughpower” Series Only Coolermaster – “Real Power Pro” Series Only Silverstone – Any Model That is my opinion.

Hey dennis and Tumbleweeds I think W0116RU is the toughpower series so dennis if you can verify the model number on the psu it self you may be good to go.

Yep, didn't see that when I looked at the link. That baby will kick both those cards with no problems. Thanks for the update wrench97, missed that somehow.
