P.S. Re: helping a build for a friend
I wouldn't touch an AMD processor... Intel core2 duo is probably the best price/performance range.
In terms of Graphics card ATI do best value/performance card but it depends what you want it for, NVIDIA are leading the way in terms of performance. PSU looks a little small, and make sure you use a good manufacturer EG Corsair. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will help soon but didn't want you buying something that will cost more money than it's worth. Cheers. |

Re: helping a build for a friend
well as I said Its a cheap build $1,300 is the max and I like amd myself. It's not my preferred choice but for $77 and im going to make sure my friend gets a video card for his money and whatever suits his psu.
I'm not too sure about 3650 graphics card if its too much for the psu. I just want to confirm that this is a that 'll last him for high school (its his first comp at 14) |

Re: helping a build for a friend
You'll need a better PSU
Go for the E8400 on a GA EP35 DS3L motherboard he'll love you for it ATI 4850 is the hot price/performance card right now or there are a lot of 8800GT's cheap. You should be able to do it for around $800 give or take a little. |

Re: helping a build for a friend
Get an AMD Athlon x2 5400+ BE...it is very well priced. For a few bucks more you'll get a dual core instead.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103289 It has an unlocked multiplier so my guess is that it can be pushed from 2.8 to 3.2GHZ easily...on air. And for the PSU - i agree you should go for 650W+ - perhaps in the future you want to crossfire and your PSU will not be a problem. Also look for a reputable brand like corsair, seasonic... I did not see this item on at your store but if you can find it somewhere I think it is the best bang for the buck on the AMD side. |

Re: helping a build for a friend
yeah definitely - newegg was only used to show you the item.
Like I said I did not find the item at the store you specified. Zotac is a name I have hardly heard of - as long as you know it is a reputable video card maker then fine. |

Re: helping a build for a friend
For Antec look for Neo or Trio models the rest are not that great, CoolerMaster Real Power Pro Models, Corsair any model, SeaSonic any model, PC Power and Cooling any model, Thermaltake Toughpower models To run a 8800 your looking at for at least 650w.
See this thread for psu info, also you are generally better off buying a case and psu separately. Power Supply Information and Selection |
