Re: Hows this sound?

If your going to use it for gaming i would recommend getting a better graphics card. If your not then its just fine.

Re: Hows this sound?

no less than £100 for the E8400, its that and the GPU that will cost the most.
Any suggestions for a rig? £350, £400 and £450 budgets, so I can show him exactly what he could get for a little bit more...

Re: Hows this sound?

Your going to have to put some prices on it but,

E8400, Gigabyte GA EP35 DS3L, Ati 4850HD or 8800GTS,Crucial BL2KIT12864AA80A • DDR2 PC2-6400 • 4-4-4-12, CoolerMaster Real Power Pro 650w or Corsair 650W
That's the big stuff the HD, DVD, Case and fans just pick decent quality and he'll like it.

Re: Hows this sound?

Yeah, he came back to me with "I kinda want to stick to £300".
Fair enough. I have some parts available.
A case, for example, which would have cost about £40(low end Thermaltake)
Cables and fans dont cost too much, I'd probably still set back £20 to make it quiet as well as cool.
E8400, £100
Gigabyte GA EP35 £80
Crucial Ballistix £35
Corsair TX650 £65
etc etc...
It only needs to be able to run medal of honour. I dont think its even one of the new ones. He always had problems with his Dellware being rubbish in online gaming situations on said game and wants something cheap and cheerful that will run it smoothly.

Re: Hows this sound?

How about an 8600gts http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814500049
or a or an 8800gs http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130332
As examples would move the price down, If you keep the 650w he could upgrade later
or you could also move the PSU down to 550w with the 8600gts.

Re: Hows this sound?

I decided to do him a favour and sell him one of mine. He is my stepdad after all. It will happily run the games he plays...
ASRock 939Dual-SATA2
AMD Athlon XP 3000+
One of my many 8400GS' (XFX, rivatunered)
Seasonic 350W

Now all it needs is some faster RAM than it has and a SATA HDD (or maybe two in RAID)
