CPU and RAM problem

I built a PC with a 780i SLi mobo, 8800GT Video Card, and a 9450 quad core. I'm having a problem booting it. When I start it, the BIOS page shows up and apparently my cpu and memory's frequency doesn't match, but I can't figure out how to fix this. Do I have to match them or what's the solution to this? I looked in the mobo manual and I'll try that, but I really need help. Thanks.

Re: CPU and RAM problem

Can you give us the brand and model of the motherboard, PSU and the Vid card?

Re: CPU and RAM problem

And also, the display only works once every three times, and the computer shuts down after 15 secs or so.

Re: CPU and RAM problem

Try entering the Bios setup on reboot and check and post the voltages and temps, If you can that is, If not I would check the voltages with a multimeter.

Test your power supply with a multi meter

Re: CPU and RAM problem

What you want to look for is the 12v, 5v, & 3v readings

Re: CPU and RAM problem

temps:
CPU: 221 F, which is crazy, I have the fan installed correctly, it works, I don't know what's wrong here, the cpu gets to 240 and shuts off.
Board: 91 F
Ram: 127 F

On the mobo, I see an orange and a green light in the same area as the blue light. Is that ok?

Re: CPU and RAM problem

Also, under the voltages, there are some values in green, should I use these? or are they just that way?

The cpu is too hot and shutting it self down to protect itself, Does the fan sound louder then normal? Do you see anything in the Bios reporting the fan speed?

Check that the heat sink is tight on the cpu at the least you will need to redo the thermal paste, how long does it take to get to those temps?

I can't tell you about the lights with knowing the exact model of the board to research the manual.

Re: CPU and RAM problem

Wow, this is my first build and all, but I missed that one. Loose heatsink. Thanks for your help. But I'm still having the issue of only displaying 1 out 3 times. What could that be? When it doesn't display it is really loud, if that helps.

Re: CPU and RAM problem

Have you checked the CPU support list to make sure your bios version supports the cpu
Make sure to check the stepping for the cpu I'm not sure on the quads but E8xxxx has a new EO as well as the CO stepping on the market and the EO needs a Bios update to run correctly.
